I too like to give gear a second chance but, at that price for just the IC, I can get a working Fluke 123 off eBay.
So, cost-wise, it doesn't make much sense to get a replacement IC that way.
In your case, it probably made sense because of additional considerations (e.g. you had the scope since new, knew its history, etc.).
FYI I replaced the T-ASIC in my unit successfully, not cheap but I hate seeing good test gear die.
My local Fluke service centre Celemetrix (I'm in ACT, Australia) had the part in stock at the time, about two years ago...
