[WTB EU/DE] Quartz 1.6384MHz for 50Hz Datron
« on: October 10, 2018, 05:57:25 pm »
I've got a nice Datron 1082 that is sadly set for the US 60Hz mains. I want to buy an "old style" case quartz of 1.6384MHz somewhere closer, because, as usual, while they are cheap and abundant in US, it's difficult to find them in EU (got only a dodgy UK seller with a picture 16.384 in the smaller can).
I can offer the 60Hz crystal 1.96608 to whom it wants it.
Alternatively, we can organize an EU group buy to offset the shipping costs from this US seller:

if there are more owners of 60HZ Datrons.

 Cheers,

I don't know if these are of any interest but they are actually OCXOs I think (I bought a few a while back) and they are cheap (for an OCXO).

They are probably too physically large for your purposes and you'd need a /10 but I can vouch for the seller actually sending the goods and they seemed to work ok when I set them up on the bench.

Thanks for the answer, it looks interesting but it's yuuuge  :-DD, the part that I want it's a "normal" crystal, the oscillator there has even a small PLL to follow the mains frequency, so no absolute precision is needed.

I was hoping that someone has one available in the part box, or, if I have to bite the bullet and order them from US there are some euro Datron users that also want one.

Digikey UK has 131 different variants in stock - they have a £30 I think it is minimum order for free delivery in the UK - I don't know if they post to Germany.

https://www.digikey.co.uk/products/en/crystals-oscillators-resonators/crystals/171?k=crystal&k=&pkeyword=crystal&pv2150=u16.384MHz&sf=0&FV=ffe000ab&quantity=&ColumnSort=0&page=1&stock=1&pageSize=25

These look similar to what you're looking for:
https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/ecs-inc/ECS-163.8-18-4XEN/XC1749-ND/2213769

You can select Germany on top of the page but I couldn't understand the text at the top (my German is more or less non-existent despite having a German aunt!).

These also look rather fun! :)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/CTS-16-384MHz-OCXO-3-3V-Oven-Controlled-VFControl-50ppb-120mW-VFOV405-TCEDH/113291179107?hash=item1a60ae3463:g:3JQAAOSwxN5WXv4q

They're also an order of magnitude higher frequency, and the Digikey ones are the modern variants that will probably die driven by the Datron.
Well it seems that I have to byte the bulled and buy a set (3pcs) from the US seller if I reactivate my Datron and the 60Hz proves to be a problem.

just wonder , quartz connecting to some oscillating schematics ,  would it be possible to bypass it and feed by own generator like:  16.384 / 10 ?

Absolutely sure, it's very possible, but for the whole expense and time invested I could buy from the US seller and have 2 other crystals for future projects or EU forum members that need one.

Did you get the part you needed? I can buy it from US and ship it to you, but you need to pay the postage.
Mails can take weeks if not 1~2 months at a cost of a few bucks if not a few tens of cents, and express can take up to a week, at a cost of ~$13.75.

If you don't need a crystal, and can live with an oscillator, then I can help source any frequency, including odd ones. I have a SiTime programmer.
SIGSEGV is inevitable if you try to talk more than you know. If I say gibberish, keep in mind that my license plate is SIGSEGV.
