Title: Brand new Uni-T UT61E for sale
Post by: iloveelectronics on October 23, 2012, 10:48:58 am
I have a few brand new in-the-box UT61E's for sale. I have them in my eBay store (link in my signature) at $58.99 / $61.39 but will sell to members here directly for $55 $51 (US customers) / $57 $53 (non-US customers) because I don't need to pay the eBay fees here. Worldwide Registered Air Mail shipping is included in the price, which comes with a tracking number. The item will be shipped from where I am (Hong Kong) through Hong Kong Post, which I believe is more reliable and efficient than China post. Price for US customers is slightly lower because Hong Kong Post and USPS has a joint service called eExpress (which is just another fancy name for Registered Air Mail), which makes sending heavier packages the US more economical.

Here's the link directly to the eBay page with detailed description: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200901686717 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200901686717)

Cheers,
Franky (franky @ 99centhobbies . com)

EDIT: eBay direct link has been updated on 27 Feb 2013. Prices and shipping methods updated on 5 Feb 2013.
EDIT: email address added on 18 July 2013
EDIT: Price reduction! Early summer sale 2014

I think in China, one only gets a one year warranty, is that right?
I bought one in Hong Kong, slightly more expensive, at 48 HK$, but it came with a three year warranty.
I meant HK$ 480.00, which is USD 62.00.

1 year is correct. And I think you meant 480 HK$? 48 is like US$6 and a bit only....

I've had a couple of inquiries at eBay so I thought I would clarify it here. If anyone's still interested in this offer please either post in this thread or send me a private message here. If you would like to buy at the discounted price we will deal privately here. Alternatively you can go through eBay (at the eBay price I listed there) and enjoy their buyer protection benefits. Either way I always try to be as honest as I can with any transaction and I'm sure a few happy customers can attest to that :)

I bought one of Franky's Uni-T UT61E meters privately through here, and I can vouch for his friendliness, honesty, and fast shipping in my transaction.  I received my multimeter from Franky in about 1 week...from Hong Kong to Texas.  I've been very satisfied throughout the transaction.

I received one today from Frank. It took 9 days which is normal from Hong Kong to S Cal. I checked a few functions and it seems working fine.
Thank you Frank.

New to the forum.I was finding it difficult to decide between Fluke 17B ($104 lowest on ebay) and others in similar price range. This seems to be a nice one for the price. I have sent a PM with the required details.

Thanks.

Thanks for the interest. PM replied.

On another note, there's currently another auction (not fixed price) on eBay that looks exactly like mine, with exact photos and text. That's a copycat and not me. I have reported that to eBay already.

Just wanted to add that dealing with Franky (iloveelectronics) was a pleasure, I have bought a few things from his ebay store and shipping was fast and he was very responsive.  I will definately order from again soon!

The quality of the 4mm banana to minigrabbers was much better than I expected, especially for the price.

Thanks! Was a pleasure dealing with you too! The eBay quota system for sellers really sucks though. For some unknown reason they have lowered my selling limit a few days ago and now I had to cut down on the quantity available on a lot of my items and even remove some items so I can make room for my best seller the UT61E. I will have to wait till the new year to start listing more stuff again...

It's the 25th here already so Merry Christmas everyone!

I'll chime in with my praise of Franky, too. I just received my small order from him, including some parts sourced at request. Excellent communication the whole way, and the shipping was remarkably quick. An absolute pleasure, and definitely recommended.

I hope package will arrive soon to my part of the world  :)

I just got my UT61E from Franky two days ago. Very fast shipping (although my DMM spent almost 3 weeks lying peacefully somewhere in Hong Kong postal network). Great packaging and very very good communication. Thats first thing you notice, that he really cares about his customers.

Many, many thanks and good luck Franky!!!

Got some silicon wire from Franky while ago and today I've made new probes for my ESR meter. This wire is impressive, lots of metal (as opposed to few thin strands of wire and plenty of plastic), solders easily, nice feel and very flexible. Will buy more  :).

Just wanted to add my name to the list of satisfied customers. I went for the registered mail, so the tracking clearly shows that Franky handed it to Hong Kong Post on the same day. They then tossed it in a corner for a week, but that's not his fault of course.

As they say on ebay, A+++++, would do business again.

Sean, just a heads up for you - I've had 2 packages to South African customers gone missing recently, both of which were sent in early December :( I'm going to re-send them via registered mail. I hope you will receive yours okay. Pleaee do let me know when it arrives.

They might still turn up, SAPO is not exactly known for being fast. That aside there has been a lot of exposure of theft from the sorting centres, especially of high value items. Caught on TV camera, but the union says they cannot be fired because, wait for it....................... they were not told that theft was being monitored by camera.

Then again at work we used to send stuff by the now dead PX freight, which had a 50% loss rate but 1% charge for insurance, plus a free waybill as well. We made money on them, just an extra day to get to the customer. no wonder they lost millions a year, though the internal tracking could tell you where it went missing, but they could never find out who took it.

Hi Franky,

I think there will come a day when you will have to send everything over a certain $$$ value via registered mail.

Someone, after you have delivered the package, will be dishonest and ruin your reputation or cause you too much grief and ruin it for the rest of us.

I recall a similar incident /scenario with a Canadian union as well.  The employee was protected by the union and found not guilty.  :--  It makes me sick.

Retiredcaps, he is offering that already but I don’t think people take it, I also ordered from Franky with a registered tracking code and it doesn’t even cost that much.

Like you said someone or some custom guy could ruin his business like this, the best option is to calculate that registered mail in the costs and be save indeed.

Hi

Just like to add to the chorus of happy buyers of Franky's meters. I got the UT61E and MS5308 LCR from him. I have no delivery issues as he hand delivered them. I guess I am just lucky as I live in HK too!!!!  :-DD

Both the meters passes the Dave's smell test. They are 100% spanking brand new and the smell proves it!!

I also got some banana plugs, grabber clips, silicon wires from him too.

I can attest that he is a pleasent guy to deal with.

Best wishes

TC

PS. don't smell the silicon wires as you will get high ... ha ha...

I have been thinking about that lately. With the MS5308 that I'm going to offer publicly for sale, it will certainly be trackable. I will most likely make it the same with th UT61E as well when the new stock arrives, but I don't know if it's going to affect my sales as there's a lot of competition on this particular product on eBay. I just hope that my focus on customer service will make up for the slightly higher price. But for smaller items the extra $2 will make some buyers think twice so that will continue to be optional (I will need to figure out how to include that option on eBay though).

The extra $2 for that option would be nice, probably include it as a separate optional postal option, or make it the default for any sale over $xx.

Personally, I think you should add the $2 for your own protection.  I would not have a problem with paying an extra $2 on a > $50 product.

I know while I sort by "lowest price + shipping", I very carefully look at feedback and the seller's description and service and will pay a bit more especially on larger $$$ items.

Hi Franky

I guess one way is to mention the 'registered' option and the additional charge in the item/shipping section and to request the buyer to include the additional charge in ‘other charges’ when checking out using paypal. It is also important to mention that choosing this option will require the buyer to sign for the delivery. I guess most buyers will be aware of this but there is no harm to be clear ^-^. If you think this is workable, you can make this ‘standard’ and buyers can make the decision no matter what the price of the item is, but like others have suggested, you can set an amount above which registered mail is a must.

It is also wise to make it mandatory when shipping to certain countries, like SA, as you mentioned earlier email.

Best of luck!

TC

Well,

You Sell This Meter Lets assume you get USD 10 Marjin And Sell it For 55USD .You make USD 10 Per Multimeter .Now you ship products to many people lets assume 6 people. All of them other then 1 does not get the meter . So You Make USD 60 By Selling Multimeters to six people. Now you have to send 1 product to the guy who did not get it /or is a liar .So you buy a multimeter and send him and loose USD  45/- in first shipping + loose another USD 45 /- in the one you resend .When you work and keep such marjins buying a mclaren is a DREAMMMMMMMMMM .........

Think about this sometimes  .As your business will grown so will you meet cheats / liars and what not  .

Your point is ?

Cheats & liars are everywhere, a good entrepreneurship needs a good faith and trustworthiness to grow, also keeps worrying cheaters too much wont get your business anywhere. Are you aware that he does his business not only in this forum.  ;)

Also what if your assumption is wrong, say he makes huge margin (psstt...trade secret) , instead of 6 customers, he made it to 600 per week and only lost 1 or 2 for months. :o

PS : Btw Franky, I still owe you my shopping list.  ;D

Well,
i am aware he does on ebay ,mjlortons forums and eevblog .You do not need to tell me how much a Unit product will cost as i have exact rates for all uni-t products right from the factory with FOB china pricing .I know how much it costs  .If he sold " Which is your stupid imagination and he knows how much he has  " 600 units he is master distributor in china .But everyone has to see two coins when they trade .No one should do business with one eye closed  .This is my suggestion to him as a elder nothing else  .

PS :  BTW why have you kept the items in the shopping cart of your brain ,tell him to ship you the goods and get over with it .This will enable more thought into your mind Before you write crap like this -> https://www.eevblog.com/forum/buysellwanted/fs-tl866cs-universal-programmer/msg184241/#msg184241 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/buysellwanted/fs-tl866cs-universal-programmer/msg184241/#msg184241) .But never bothered to answer when i and franky both commented  .It does not bother me anymore cos i know what goes on in your mind now after all these comments  .You never take anything positively right .Your brain is full of negative views and thoughts .Over And Out

Guys, no need to argue. Let me explain my position below.

Cheats & liars are everywhere, a good entrepreneurship needs a good faith and trustworthiness to grow, also keeps worrying cheaters too much wont get your business anywhere.

This is exactly how I want to build this business. I want to build it upon trust and good reputation. I don't want to be "just another Chinese seller". I don't want to worry about cheaters and liars. I want to believe that all my customers are honest people (or at least I'd like to appeal to this group), although there's no way that can be guaranteed, in fact, the opposite might be more guaranteed  :-DD In any case, if I worry too much the negative energy will eventually get to me and stop me from providing the service I'm providing now.

To be honest I don't even have a $10 margin on this particular multimeter. If you think about it, it doesn't even make sense with all the work involved. But if this is what gets people in the door then I'm all for it. Hopefully they will then buy more stuff from me on which I have higher margins.

People have told me that buyers on eBay have no loyalty, they just shop where the price is the lowest, but I'm happy to report that I do have a few repeat customers both on this forum and on eBay, and I would attribute that to the fact that I'm providing quality service/products at very reasonable price (please tell me otherwise if that's not the case  ;D).

Making money is not my sole purpose of running this business, I'm treating this only as a secondary income source. As I wrote on my eBay store home page, I want to share my geographical advantage with the rest of the world, so people won't have to pay outrageous prices for stuff that can be had for much cheaper, stuff with decent quality that is. I'd also like to bridge the gap between the English speaking world and the resourceful China. And if at all possible, I'd also like to change the perception of "One Hung Lo" (i.e. all this crap coming out of China), to at least "there are some half decent products made in China".

Obviously I'm just one tiny person so I won't be able to change the world, but I'm quite happy to help and change one customer at a time.

Franky ,
We all love you and you know this right .Its just your honesty that makes these customers go back to you .You are indeed in a very resourceful area .Consider other dealer who first have to import from china/hongkong and then try and compete worldwide .And man china makes everything good/bad/ugly .The issue is that when people import ugly stuff and project its good without understanding .This makes china's name bad too  .I know how much marjin you get on the tools you sell but thats a point between two dealers .Remember i told you soon i would be getting some tools from you after you collect them for me in your place that time is not far off .

Ps :  on the lighter note ,you still working in holidays period  ?

Unlike in mainland China, in Hong Kong holiday doesn't start until this weekend, and it's only for a few days. And I'm pretty sure I will still be working on those days anyway :)

And let's get back to the thread topic - the UT61E  is still in stock so if anyone wants one please contact me :)

Received mine waay earlier than i expected it(was expecting the usual 2 months, got it in 2 weeks give or take).

My only gripe?, the manual is in chinese :D (and there's a quirk with the peak and AC voltages dsiplayed, but that's outside the shipping/selling process)

While I was tesing my camera setup, postman brought a package from Franky, so I thought I make a unpacking video

Thanks Franky, looking really good, your package arrived in 2 days to the Netherlands but took our Dutch customs and postal services 15 days to proceed. Greatly packaged and nice silicone cables.

Another happy customer.  Frank when out of his way to answer my (silly) questions.

It took only 6 business days to get them in the mail(I'm in Seattle, WA).  Well packaged.  And the meters are well with in spec. in fact only a few(3-4) counts out of my other bench meter.

Way impressed by the UT61E's LCD - it had better contrast and sharpness then a fluke 87-5.  It makes my fluke look washed out.  Dave should review one....guess he's waiting for someone to send him one for free.

As a second, third or forth meter...well worth the price.

Hi Franky and folks,

This is another satisfied customer.
Fast delivery; can't complain about 10 days.  Also Franky seemed to just drop whatever he had in his hands, pack the stuff quickly and run to the post office to get it out the same day! :-D
Excellent packaging; (extra probes in a bag with corrugated cardboard behind them - never mind they where in a carrying bag wrapped in bubble wrap. This inside a bubble wrap lined envelope.) Wish all shippers took as much attention and detail to what they do.

So.. two thumbs up (I don't have more thumbs, usually ;-)  )
Thanks Franky! :-)

Franky,

Since you have to take the meter out of the box anyway to take out the battery would it be possible to do quick check on accuracy on DCV range? I don't expect any report, just want a confirmation that it is indeed within spec (at least when it's new). Since I am lacking on better options this will be my "reference" DMM and I have no comparable equipment to cross reference it with.
Title: Re: Brand new Uni-T UT61E for sale
Post by: iloveelectronics on March 05, 2014, 12:32:34 am
I actually do that as one of the basic tests to ALL meters I sell. I make sure all the basic functions work and are within specs. I use the Chinese AD584 based voltage reference, the DMM Check Plus, and a LCR reference I have for the tests.

If you don't mind me opening up the case I can even do a DCV calibration on the UT61E based on the references I have. I do now also own an Agilent 34461A to verify that my voltage references are what they claim they are to enough accuracy. Obviously I won't and can't afford the time to do that (calibration/adjustment) all the time but for forum members who request it specicifically I'd be happy to spend the extra effort.

Cheers,
Franky

That would be absolutely great but I think you should charge a little extra for it at least. Obviously everyone would want their DMM calibrated and you already sell those meters to forum members with a discount.

I have dealt with a lot of "value added" resellers in the past, but no one comes close to this level of service.  Many "value added" resellers add no value whatsoever and even hold up the process.

PS. Franky likely has a lifetime supply of 9V batteries in his house.

Its been a while since I received my UT61E from Franky and I have just realized that I didn't give my feedback yet, so here it is: just buy from Franky! I got tracking number on 7.03 and the meter arrived at my door on 13.03. Delivery from China to Poland in 6 days. I'll take that happily! :D. The meter is of course amazing for me because I never had anything nearly as good, so I cannot give you valuable review. One thing I will say though is I am not sure if you should bother with better leads for it like some people suggested, at least not right away. Ones included may not be rated for high voltage but nor is the DMM. They are quite pointy, feel nice in hand and I think are perfectly adequate for the job.

And once again: I highly recommend buying from Franky!
Title: Uni-T UT61E Early Summer sale!
Post by: iloveelectronics on May 16, 2014, 11:05:40 am
Lately there have been more and more sellers on different platforms (eBay, Aliexpress, etc) selling these meters for ridiculously low prices and I think it's time for me clear my stock and call it quits (on this particular model), as it really doesn't make a lot of sense anymore with virtually no margins. I'm reducing my price on the Uni-T UT61E to $51 for US buyers and $53 for the rest of the world, shipping with tracking included.

My price still may not be the lowest but I'm hoping feedback from my previous customers in this thread, plus the fact that I test all meters I sell, will give my buyers more confidence and make up for the difference. I am also willing to do a simple adjustment on the DCV range against the voltage references I have and an in-cal Agilent 34461A 6.5 digit bench multimeter, to make sure every meter reads as accurately as possible.

Please PM me with your Paypal email address if interested. Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Franky

I think it depends on which market/country you're in. The sellers are usually selective in which countries to sell to at the lower price range. Aliexpress is where the prices are the worst (for sellers) though...

I'm sorry you got one of the last units at the $57 price I was offering. If you need anything from me in the future I'll make sure I give extra discounts or throw in some extra stuff to sweeten the deal :)

One thing that makes a bit of a difference for me is the browser configuration. If I put English as the first preferred language in the browser config I get different aBay search results than when I have it as second or third language or not included at all.

I don't think I will be able to find another DMM that sells as well as the UT61E. It's just unfortunate that other sellers have driven the price down to an unsustainable level :( At its current price, it will be hard to find any equivalent.

Incidentally, I have just posted in a new thread an auction for a manufacturer repaired Brymen BM257. Hi, yes the scope itself is about $595, shipping does depend a lot on where you live and whether you want it shipped by ordinary Air Parcel or Speedpost/EMS. For Air Parcel most countries would be around $65-70. Speedpost/EMS cost varies widely between different countries though, it could be anywhere between about $95 up to $180.

Hi there franky, I was wondering if you could do a bit of a review/comparison of the different alligator/croc clips you sell on ebay, eg, which ones you like best, which ones are the strongest/feel the best made, that or just post stating which ones you like best is enough, not too concerned about how you attach to the clips, just the clips themselves.

Sure, I can do that. Will make a post in a separate thread later this weekend. I'm not sure how convincing my words will be as the seller though..LOL!

Thanks, I've bought many alligator clips from many places to only find flimsy construction or obnoxious design; I don't mind paying a bit more for good quality clips. I'm looking for two different types, a set of closed type (where the entire jaws are covered by a boot) and an larger open type, where the jaws are open all the way to the pivot point.

Never mind creating a new thread, I'll just post a short response here.

My personal favourite are these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171220194350 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171220194350)
They just feel very well made in terms of quality. The spring is not very strong, but it's just the right springiness for me. The only one thing is that they don't have a lot of teeth near the front so depending on what you're trying to grip onto sometimes they may not be the best solution.

I also like these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=201061867934 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=201061867934)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171281675000 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171281675000)
I know some people don't like the boots which could slide around sometimes when you try to open the jaws, but it's not a big issue for me. The copper materials used on them are very solid. The springs are also not overly strong.

For use in higher power situations you could try these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200877470970 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200877470970)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200903199217 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200903199217)
Both of these have very strong springs. You don't want to clip them onto your fingers!

And I must also mention these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171302315753 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171302315753)
These Brymen made clips are of really good quality! If you're looking for something to attach to multimeter probe tips these would be the ones I recommend.

iloveelectronics, do you have sources for 230V FX-888D's (or maybe it's a problem because it's a Japanese company)?

Yes, I do have a few sources for genuine Hakko products. They are 220V rated instead of 230V though, as that's the voltage for China and Hong Kong, and they come with the Chinese style mains plug (very similar to the Aussie one).

That should not be an issue using them in Europe though, right? Any information about the prices perhaps?

Yes, I think 220V rated devices should generally work fine in 230V countries. In terms of pricing it would be around $94 before shipping, and shipping (air parcel) would be roughly between $40-60 depending on location. You will probably find much cheaper ones on Aliexpress, etc. but I'm guess many of those would be fakes/clones.

Thanks for the info! I'm pondering if I should order one internationally.

Why aren't you selling these on eBay, BTW? There seem to be a demand for ~230V/50Hz versions, and you have good rep, so it might work despite AliExpress and the US-based sellers of the 120V version.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the authentic Chinese version is still somewhat different from the EU versions (maybe to reduce costs?). I don't remember where I saw it, though. At least, there seems to be a potential distinction on the power PCB between 220V and 230V (there's 220V, 100/230V, and 110/120/240V?!), but I can't see why 220-240V would be different versions, assuming they're all 50Hz, which is the case in China.

This thread has gone a bit off topic and I've created a new thread for all my future sales related topics: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/buysellwanted/franky%27s-sales-thread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/buysellwanted/franky%27s-sales-thread/)
