DER EE/IET LCR
« on: January 04, 2015, 03:15:46 am »
Hi Guys,

Long time lurker 1st time post :D.

Just want to know about the LCR meter I purchased. I ordered a DE-5000 by IET at amazon but when the package arrived it was the DER EE - 5000 model which is very annoying. I know the latter was made in Taiwan. I only purchased this after seeing Daves review on the IET brand and purchased this from the EEVblog link. Also I thought it comes with all those accessories and the case but only TL21 and TL22 was included sigh. Now im not sure if this brand is on par with the IET labs version. Can someone help with this? I'm already thinking of returning the item the gave me.

It depends on how much you paid for it.  If you paid over $300USD (the going rate for IET's DE-5000) then you should be concerned. If you paid around $100USD then no, you got what you paid for. The concensus here on the forums is that there is no difference between the IET branded and the DER.

I noticed lately that the sellers are getting a bit loose on whether it's IET or DER branded in their ads on Amazon and Ebay.

I bought this kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131377081847
$156 for everything, I think this is about the cheapest you can find the complete kits for, atleast, I didn't find cheaper ones, and for $5 shipping, it arrived on my door after 5 days (japan -> norway)

Probably something like VAT related. And BTW Japanese people do not buy on ebay often.

It's a common defense strategy for many eBay sellers from the far east. It is to a) avoid letting competing sellers see your listings too easily, and b) avoid receiving intentional negative feedback from these sellers or their associates. Same thing with 90+% of sellers from China too. It may sound silly but these things do happen. I know because it has happened to someone I know personally.

And it's not as complete as mine.. I have 21, 22, 23, and the USB option.. the USB option is very expensive for some reason (the TL23 is just an earthwire.. )

Don't let buyers remorse ruin your outlook.
Look at it as you missed a bargain, but still got a very good LCR meter.

Could have been the old brick in a box, or something that cannot do the job.
Put it to use, you'll soon get your moneys worth from it.
