Not sure if this is even a good price for all that but it looks so well organised it makes my electrons tingle.

Wow.
Wish I had a spare thou.
One thing though... how is he going to 'safely post' those cabinets full of drawers of small parts? Turn the packages upside down, and many parts will mix.
Does he think anyone pays attention to 'this side up' stickers?
Or maybe he can cut little foam pads for each drawer? Individually shrink-wrap each drawer? I can't imagine...
Anyone have any ideas?
I found once when transporting parts cabinets, a sheet of board taped on over the drawer fronts is a good idea. But you still have to keep them upright.
If I was buying I'd consider that 'pick up in person only' required.

Big economy pack of food baggies and dump each drawer into one and close it, then place back into drawer and slide back into rack. Then place whole rack in big bag and tape all round. Works quite well, so long as the contents are not static sensitive or are packed in asntistatic packaging.

$1000 seems a silly high price to me. A couple of $100 at most.

Yep you can buy a lot of parts at digikey got a thou.
I've done this sort of move before with removalists. Bought a cling wrap thing from a stationary store. Don't know what they're called, but basically a small roll of cling wrap with a handle for packing stuff. Then just quickly wrapped each draw in both directions. It's fast, cheap and 100% effective. Just remove the wrap at the other end.

Factor in the work to organize the components that well and I still think $1000.00 is a little high!

Not to mention the fact that you'll probably only ever use 1/10th of them. Parts that will sit in a drawer taking up space until you die are worthless; lab stock only has value if it's components you'll actually need in a hurry.
-
yes, you need stock only for very every-day component like resistor, cap etc etc
-
To anyone: do yourself a favour and don't buy these kind of 'component collections'. The reason they got left over is because they had no use. It will just take space and when you finally throw them out you still feel sorry for wasting money. Been there, done that :palm:

Yes, I have used this method as well. It should be OK, as long as you keep the cabinets upright. I also put a small bit of crumpled up newspaper in each drawer to stop the parts from rattling around.

I would agree with this to a certain extent. It is not worth paying real money for such a collection IMO. But if you can get it for cheap, and have the space to store it, then it is probably worthwhile. Even if most of the parts are not common ones, it could be the difference between getting inspiration for a project and implementing it right away, and having to wait a couple of weeks for parts to come in, by which time you might have forgotten all about it.

10% of the original cost value is all it's really worth to anyone.
-
Well, someone paid AU $1,225.
Yeah, I agree it's overpriced in a practical sense.
But someone is going to have a lot of Christmas-style fun unwrapping each drawer.

At least you'd feel like you're getting your moneys worth with all that unwrapping!

I think also there's a lot of strange component.
