First time, I clicked the link and used work email, got nothing. Tried again later after reading the warning about copy pasting the link. This time I did just that and used my gmail address (same settings as you still) and received an email within 10 minutes. Filled out the form the email requested and received a second email within a few minutes.

I just tried again using a non-gmail email address and using IE to go to the page link directly.
Email came through within 10min.

I did a little more Googling at lunch and it seems this has been around and posted in a few places for a short while - so not sure how many MS is planning to hand out...

Be interested to hear from anyone who receives a kit.

Cheers.

The getting started guide has a bright red warning that
Quote
WARNING: You must use a power supply to power the board! You will
damage the board if you power it with a USB cable.

I'm wondering how it was necessary to design it with such a feature. Accidents can happen.

I'm guessing because the Intel Quark CPU uses up almost the entire wattage of a single USB port by itself (TDP: 2.3W)?

Does anyone know if you can run some form of windows on it.
That seems like the only point of having it x86 compatible but i cant see any way to connect up a screen which is kinda required for windows.

That's the whole idea with signing up for Microsoft Windows on Devices, their SDK will have some flavor of windows. But it's focused to the Internet of Things so no video out, but you can stream video through the Ethernet adapter I guess ;)

i hope it can accept normal windows 2000/XP/7 USB drivers for devices. That would actually be useful to me for a project.

They're not going to deliver it; the link has already been posted on freetard reddit and all the freebie-hoarder-reseller websites. Don't bother even signing up - they'll just blacklist you. I've no inclination to give Billy-boy my mailing address.

Funny thing is that when I posted about windowsondevices 3 months ago there was really no interest in the forum.
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/microcontrollers/windows-on-devices/

Now that people found out they are giving away kits, suddenly everyone wants one.

The power of free ;)

I probably will get mine anyways since i did sign up 3 month ago but now that is viral well, it all depends how much MS and Intel want to flood the market, to them it might not be a big expense if it gives them a good share of the makers market.

I didn't request it 3 months ago, I did sign up on windowsondevices 3 months ago, I got my e-mail July 1st and went viral today, so I'm not worried on getting mine.

BTW I did get a galileo for around $60 from microcenter a while back. Only reason is that is pretty much a Pentium and wanted to look into this windows on devices thing and didn't know they would give kits free.

If I get a 2nd one for free, well that is a bonus.

The Generation 2 Galileo just came out with better GPIO and broader input voltage range, maybe they're getting rid of Gen 1 stock this way?

They were already giving them away at the Maker Faire just as long as you had some sort plan. A guy next to me got one simply by saying he wanted to use it with an app to turn on his coffee machine.

Unfortunately I think I was asking the Intel rep too many questions about the miniPCIe, Wifi and Bluetooth drivers etc so he left without giving me anything.  ::) or maybe because I asked earlier why was Intel giving away LED blinky boards that only had Atmel chips on them..  >:D

i'm sure their website system has a limit on the number it gives away.
I reckon youll get a unit if you got the email "We’ll let you know when your kit has shipped."

2nd Generation Product Enhancements
The Intel Galileo board (Gen 2) delivers improved features and functionality in the following areas:
• 12 GPIOs fully native for greater speed and improved drive strength.
• 12-bit PWM for more precise control of servos and smoother response.
• 12 V Power-over-Ethernet capable.
• Power supplies from 7 V to 15 V
are supported.
• Serial console UART header is compatible with FTDI USB converters.
• Console UART1 can be redirected to Arduino* headers in sketches, which can eliminate the need for soft-serial.

Signed up with 2 different emails (one gmail, one non-gmail) from different computers with different IP addresses, nothing has arrived yet. I think they called it quits.

Or maybe they don't even ship to northern europe...

I signed up during the TechEd conference when it was publicized there, and about two weeks ago they contacted to say it would be shipping soon - the board plus some other unspecified tech and an sdk.

Haven't seen a shipping notice or received anything yet.
