Free Oscilloscopes (UK collection only)
« on: February 11, 2018, 12:14:46 pm »
Hi

The National Museum of Computing
http://www.tnmoc.org/

is pleased to offer a number of vintage oscilloscopes to any one in the UK.
TNMOC needs to clear space in our storage wearhouse, so all the scopes are being offered (they are not a central part of the computing story).

All the scopes on offer can be seen here :
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yykf1iszwyzz61e/AADprDgFUI4CJfjAWjd158N_a?dl=0
The Tektronics 5xx may already be claimed by a collector.
There are a number of HPs, Heathkit and Telequipment.
There is 1 spectrum analyser in there as well.
There is 1 valve based counter in there as well

The scopes are offered as is, no warranty or liability.
Condition is as seen, none have been tested (we cannot allow them to be tested on site due to insurance liabilities)
Collection ONLY and by appointment only (usually weekends).
First come first serve.

ALL oscilloscope MUST go be the end of February. Any scope not taken will be disposed of, ie scrapped!  :'(
So please taken them, save them, save them save them!

Please drop me a message via this forum about which scope you want and to arrange collection.

TNMOC is a charity, monetry donations will be greatfully accepted :-+

regards
MosherIV

When you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective.

That HP Counter deserves to be in a museum...

You will find it's original listing in the 1956 HP catalog here...

http://www.hparchive.com/Catalogs/HP-Catalog-1956-10-Revised.pdf

Unfortunately I don't have the space to put it somewhere and marvel at it.

HP was a private company in 1956

Hi

I would be very interested in an oscilloscope, if you still have them.

I am a beginner in electronics and would like one to learn on, if you could possibly suggest one that would be suitable
 Thank you

Hi again

I just replied to your post and would like to add this
It is part of a response from someone on here who is trying to help me and are suggesting some scopes that I should be on the lookout for and wondered if you had anything suitable?

1. Tektronix 2225
2. Tektronix 465/475 (working only!)
3. Philips PM3217
4. Any 60MHz hameg.
5. Any working Hitachi.

Look out for: dual channels, 50MHz bandwidth minimum (don't be lured by cheap 20MHz units!), bright crisp display and service manual available.

FWIW This equipment is very very old and much of it is valve based.  You might be better off looking at something more modern on ebay or buying a low end modern scope.  (Not everyone has a valve tester!)

There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

Hi MosherIV,

I would be very interested in  a TEK 500 series scope (preference for the 585). I have recently restored a TEK544 so I know how heavy they are! I live not far away and could collect most times.

Regards

Ian

In the saved folder is something I've been looking for years, a HP 524 counter. I honesty thought that there were none left in the UK, judging by how many parts that have appeared for sale over the years, in fact both the smaller ones I have in my collection came from overseas (521 & 523).

Does anyone know what they are doing with it or is it available?

(see my comments above). I hope you save it.  If you don't I might feel obliged to take it myself.

Thanks for the reminding me of the HParchive site, looks like they have added a few more catalogs since I last looked, I did have most of the pre 1970 ones downloaded.
I've had a good look through the late 50's to early 60's ones and the 524B looks to have been discontinued by 1961 (last appears in the 1960 catalog) having been replaced by the 524D version.
Definitely will need to bring some help for collection if it is available as the weight is approx 49kg.

Good afternoon,
PM sent

Somehow I love ancient boat anchor test equipment especially those with valves and weigh a ton even if when restored and working it has little practical use!!

I'd definitely be interested in one of the 585's, if one is still available?
