Thanks for the heads up!  I've been doing a Udemy course on Kicad that I bought, so far it's been good, and well worth the $15 I paid.

Most of the courses are in promotion at sometime, for $10 or $15. I have  buy a bunch of them.

There was a free course on "Microcontrollers and the C Programming Language" it uses the TI Launchpad MSP430FR6989.

For those that like links:

http://www.ti.com/tool/MSP-EXP430FR6989#buy

and

https://www.udemy.com/mcu_msp430/learn/v4/overview

Hope links work because I signed up and ordered the board

FYI

It is not easy to order from TI, they want a lot of info.  For company name I put "Self"  for company URL I put "eevblog.com".  What confused me the most was "Name"  there were several fields that I ended up put my name into.

I looked at it this way:  if I could not figure out how to order I would not figure out how to use the silly thing.  So ordering is a "pre-test".

Hey thanks for the heads up on this.  If you click "buy from distributor" on the TI link you can get the board for $18.63 from Mouser.  May be worth the extra 64 cents if TI is a PITA, I think this is the way I will go.

Since shipping can be cheaper, I think you save something like 40 cents or $1.40 ?  I guess it depends on if you like taking mental tests (via TI).  I am proud that I passed and was able to order from TI.  For me it was worth the 40 cents for the mental test.   :-DD

Summary:  Order from Mouser if you do not need the mental challenge ordering from TI.

Done "Microcontrollers and the C Programming Language".
Very basic. For those who don't have a idea of microcontroller programing.
Maybe interesting for those Arduino makers that had only use the Arduino enviroment.

I think I am about 1/2 done.  FYI this is really a PDF based course.  The videos are short introductions to the PDFs.  It works really well because the PDF downloads are presented along the way.  You do not have to search for them.  My printer is getting a work out.

The PDFs are very detailed.  For example the one on "AND" is 18 pages.

So far the board has not been used nor have I received mine.

Was able to install CCS installed easy enough.

So far I am pleased but expect that I will have to look into other resources because I have a lot of dead brain cells.

Arduino Practice Test Get Certified

This one is normally $200 but free for the first 500 from the looks of it. Doubt it's that great as it's just an exam but it's free.

Has that guy really gotten 18,930 students at $200 a pop?  :o
Or do most of them come when it's free?

Not sure but like on youtube/patreon there is money in it. If they marketed your course aggressively (they take a bigger cut) you would think they get more sign ups. It looks like they take 3% if you don't need help marketing.

No way he gets $200 a pop, I took it, it was crap.  If I had paid for it I would have raised hell.  Plus it's misleading as there is no Arduino "certification."

I think I am about 1/2 done. ....

When I said 1/2, I meant printing out the PDFs.  I am on Lesson 21.  The printed docs are excellent.  There are not many (if any) tutorials on the MSP430.  I do not watch any videos because they were just intros to the PDFs.

I figure it takes me a month to do what a college student would do in a day.  I do it as a challenge to fight off dementia.

Because of Shock I have a couple of boards, a parts kit, a foot tall of PDFs.   I wish more members would come up with tutorials.

A big hand and a big thanks for Shock   :-+ :-+ :-+

There are a ton of Udemy paid courses that go on discount or totally free from time to time so check regularly.

Here is a list of all free courses on Udemy.

This is a useful post so I asked Simon if he would make it a Sticky.  Also since this is under Buy and Sell, that it be moved.  I suggested a new catagory called "Training"

What I would like to know is how to search for free courses if I do not have your link?  I tried and failed.  Thanks very much for this post.

Occasional free offers for paid courses does not constitute a sticky nor it's own forum in my opinion. It doesn't even belong in another thread as any posts can be redundant in a few days. This forum seems the perfect place for it along with the other electronics related deals I have posted.

This is indeed a bit of a difficult one as it's a commercial outfit albeit offering free stuff now and then. I'll have to see what Dave wants to do as free stuff is always good to post up as a sticky but commercial people should really be paying for an advertisement slot, that's what keeps this thing going

Free is free I guess, but yeah, ultimately commercial in nature, usually with an up-sell from the free?
If we had a sticky for every free online course then there might not be any space left on the main page?
e.g. a I get a lot of requests to advertise free commercial webinars and the like.

I am currently enrolled in another free online course site edX. I need to learn python for my final year project, fairly straight forward. The course is free but getting a recognised certificate is US $99. I think this is god value for any potential commercial recognition. The free version has an auditing process so the certificate is available so far right throughout my course. So if i feel it is worth it I can upgrade.

I like the concept although i am prominently RF I am not sure if i wish to fork out for the basic course. Still the concept is really great.

Just to clarify things, the Udemy free offer courses that I have seen don't expire once signed up during the free offer period. They aren't bait and switch tactics, more promotional to get people to view and review the courses and get likes etc, much like a restaurant giving free meals.

I've been using them for quite a while and never paid a cent as most of topics I'm interested in come up from time to time with a free course, some of them are quite comprehensive but don't expect an engineering degree here.

I have had the same experiences.  Be sure to rate the course, I think this is why they offer free courses.

Here are a bunch of courses that are FREE FOR A LIMITED TIME on Udemy. If it doesn't come up as free it means you missed out.

In order to do the courses you first need to make an account, come back and click the links, remove anything you accidentally added (didn't want to pay for), check out and then enroll. If you like the course give them a rating. You don't need a creditcard to sign up, you can use a junk email address, you can unclick receiving emails. No I'm not affiliated, I did this to share.
