For Sale, maybe...

I bid on an auction for up to 4 of these but they never got the reserve. As I was the highest bidder, they offered me me "first rights" on them for a (compare to list price) silly low price.

Datasheet blurp:

– 4-channel digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) models
– Low profile, high density 1U (4.45 cm, 1.75 inches) package
– LXI class C compliant
– 1 GHz analog bandwidth
– Up to 4 GSa/s sample rate
– Standard 8 Mpts MegaZoom III deep memory
– Full-scale connectivity – Standard USB, LAN, GPIB interface with XGA video output – 8-bit vertical resolution (extensible to 12 bits)
– Built-in Web browser control
– IVI-COM driver
– 100% software compatible with 6000A Series portable oscilloscopes
– Optional segmented memory application
– Optional secure environment mode

Now, this a rackmount "blade" type scope. So it first I figured this would only appeal to folks looking for automated test equipment. Then again: if you add a simple LCD screen you have a wicked scope (albeit with a silly webbased interface). So if anyone's interested let me know in the next 24h.

Price: I'd be looking for 2000€ + shipping for a EU company, 2500€ + shipping for a EU natural person. If you're someplace else, let me know. All transactions would have to be Bank Transfer only. This would be through my registered Belgian company, a number of people on this forum can vouch for me.

Are these new or second hand? What sort of warranty do they come with?

Second hand. Condition: what you would expect after a few years in a rack. Warranty: basic. That it works.

This is a fine oscilloscope indeed. But please beware that it can only be operated through its network interface(s). USB mice and keyboards are non-operational when plugged into the unit.

On page 49 the User's Guide hints that VNC might be implemented, which might be interesting. I haven't got this to work during the short time I borrowed one of these, though.

Oh? So, just plugging in a mouse and monitor and pronto a standalone scope is not going to happen? That's a shame   :'( ? Figure it's not much of an effort to set up some KVM setup with the lab computer, but still: not ideal :(

I've failed to get the web front panel working on recent versions of browser/java due to security issues - I don't know enough about this stuff to know how fixable this is.
The error is "java.security.AccessControlException : Access denied("java.net.Socketpermission" "192.168.0.60:5900" "connect.resolve")
Adding the scope's IP address to the Java exception list does not help.

If it's any help this message appears on the web control screen :

 |'m guessing This has something to do with Java's fall from Grace? According to the Keysight site, scope is stille supporter so this might be something they'd have to fix? :-//

Seems like one forum member is interested. So, if they are still there I'm going to pull the trigger..

Also be aware that they could be very noisy due to small fans and high airflow requirements to maintain proper cooling when mounted in a (hot) cabinet.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Not going to happen - I'm sure there's a workaround for people that know more about Java stuff.
If you're looking at using a rackmount unit on the bench, chances are you'd want to set it up with a dedicated system - tablet or small PC/RasPi etc. so should be able to deal with this issue.

And I'm sure the license 5/6/7000 hacks will be applicable to this unit.

Eh, wel, shouldn't be too hard to dig up an old PC and let it loose. Chances are the browser on it will match the Agilent in age and no further nastiness will be required ;)

I'd rather go the VNC route!

Any chance of some internal pics ? Would be intersting to see if they use the same 6000 series PCB, or it's a special for this model.

No. Already trying to sell a DSO7104A. On Linux VNC access to the DSO7104A works out of the box though and it seems the scope is controllable through key combinations (read the manual) but ofcourse you won't get nowhere near the update speed. Actually it is not a bad way to get screenshots.

OK, that means that the  VNC Java applet does not have permission to open a socket when running in the browser sandbox.

I don't really "do" Java (any more, have the T-shirt on that one) and have never written an applet so details are a bit shaky but adding

permission java.net.SocketPermission "192.168.0.60:5900", "connect, resolve";

to the java security policy should do the trick. Change the IP address as appropriate.

The file to edit is c:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre<version>\lib\security\java.policy and it goes in the "grant {.....}" section.

Just getting hold of a VNC client and pointing it at the IP address, screen 0 should work.

Running the VNC client in the browser is generally just a convenience.

Thanks - that did the trick.

FYI Screen update rate in remote panel rate is about 2.5fps

Not looked but I'd be surprised if the scope's ethernet isn't 100M max

Got one up and running. Webbrowser is a dud on the account of Java and the VNC connection doesn't show menus. Will check out Grumpies suggestions. :box:
