SOLD (UK) Raspberry Pi 3 Model B x LOADS
« on: August 16, 2017, 11:10:41 pm »
ALL SOLD FOR NOW, THERE WILL BE MORE

I've been building a Raspberry Pi 3 mountain under my desk for the last few months while I've been busy doing actual real work...

All of them are customer returns but after I've sorted though a few hundred of them today the reasons they were returned are becoming obvious...

Reasons for return:
1) No HDMI output
2) Does not boot up
3) WiFi not working
4) Bluetooth not working
5) USB not working

I had over a hundred that were NOOBS packages, all of these were returned because of the first 2 reasons. I struggled with these until I realised that every single one of them had an SD card that had been cracked when it had been put in the plastic holder at the factory. Some heavy handed person had pressed them into the package too hard and broken every single one of the cards in two.

I had a few more hundred that weren't NOOBS packages but were returned because of the first 2 reasons. Quite a few were returned with the customers SD cards still in them, all formatted wrongly and incapable of booting. Stuck a sensible SD card in and they booted just fine.

Quite a few more because of reasons 3 and 4. I've tested all of these and they connect to 3 different access points and a Bluetooth device ok for me. I suspect operator error.

There were some with USB errors, these were proper errors and I've chucked these in a pile to dispose of later....

So I'm selling the ones that are tested to boot ok with working HDMI, USB, WiFi and Bluetooth. Prices are:

1 off £15
2 off £25
5 off £60
10 off £100

Prices include UK shipping, I'll ship anywhere else if you pay the extra shipping cost.

I HAVE A NEW PAYPAL ADDRESS, existing customers please don't pay me without asking first...

ALL SOLD FOR NOW, THERE WILL BE MORE

What's the postage to Australia? How many can you send for that price?

£20 for 10 Royal Mail tracked and signed for.

Hmmm...  about A$20 ea landed for a bunch of ten.

Still have some of my Pi 2's from last time though.

Just for anyone's interest...

2 used as OctoPi connected to two 3D printers (https://octopi.octoprint.org/)
1 used as Pi-Hole (https://pi-hole.net/) - ad blocker that works very well.
1 about to be used for Micromite Basic playing (http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9823&PN=2)
a couple given away for younger enthusiastic friend/relatives.

the rest are/were destined for my star (solar) powered cluster search for alien life. Not sure when that will happen!  :P

I can recommend TopLoser as a seller and probably as anything else, nice guy in my dealing previously.
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

Ouch.  You must sell crap loads of these to make it worth the hassle of dealing with all the returns.

I would suggest to measure current consumption without SD card inserted as major test to avoid unnecessary returns. Most of the boards with  issues (hidden, often damaged BCM SoC) have higher current consumption than normal. It may vary by around 10-15 mA between the boards depending on DC/DC converter IC models used on particular board.

I took the precaution of looking at each board with a thermal camera as I was testing each one. Some did have high temperature SoC issues. I'll do the test you suggest as well, just in case.

It's often like 15-50 mA higher than normal. Something like GPIO pin, Camera differential pair or even HDMI differential pair partially blown (may still function but unstable).

Sorry, should have said, mine arrived on Saturday.

Have yet to play with them as I'm on holiday but I don't expect any problems.

I'm still waiting. Not surprising really since I'm in Australia.
Did any other Aussies get the tracking number to work? It doesn't work for me in the Australia Post website. The Royal Mail website just says it's on its way and in the hands of a overseas postal carrier.

Maybe I shouldn't expect the tracking number to just transition across mail systems. But if two would work together I would have thought the UK and Australia would be two such systems.

For NZ the tracking number will start to work once it hits the NZ postal system - normally after it arrives in NZ.

In my experience Royal Mail is rapid to NZ, and likely the same or better to AU. Certainly much much faster than getting something from China.

Australian post tracking won't work for small parcels. If the tracking number is in their system, their website will show something like "item not trackable" instead of tracking number not found. Don't expect it arriving in less than 2 weeks, as per my experience shipping to Australia. Although this might be different for sending from UK (Commonwealth nations and stuff). For me it's one of the slowest places to ship.

From memory my last lot of pies from Ian arrived in about ten days. (real days not business days)
Shipping from the UK via Royal Mail is surprisingly quick, mostly.

The search for cheap micro-SD cards will be next as mentioned earlier... cables.. plug packs... easily costs more than the devices themselves.

Also if anyone's interested ... https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B071ZVBDC6 currently free.

I was surprised how much microSD card prices have gone up since the last time I bought some.  Two years ago, generic 8GB class 10 cards were about $2 each.  Does anyone have a current source in the $3-4 range?

Looking around at current prices for USB sticks, it seems that flash memory in general has gone up in price recently.

I can sell original 8GB Sandisk UHS-1/class 10 micro SD cards removed from returned Raspberry Pi for $3 each. Come with original raspberry SD adapters.
EDIT, shipping is $ 3.5, will arrive to US in approximately 10 days.
