FS (US) Forceps Giveaway, sort of.....
« on: August 13, 2018, 02:41:49 am »
Someone gave me a box of 5.5" curved forceps.  A ridiculous amount of these.  I gave a bunch to my fellow technicians.  I offered some to Nanofrog and while speaking to him, he said why not start a thread.  So I have 72 of these left (yes, Nano, more than I thought) that I would like to offer to everyone.  To make it easy for me, I will put 6 in a #0 Jiffy bubble mailer for the first 10 people who PM me with name and address and I will give you my PayPal email.  All I ask is a few bucks for USPS shipping.  I would like the money sent PayPal friends and family as a gift so no one pays fees or it probably isn't worth it.

EDIT: I will be shipping Nanofrog's envelope out tomorrow and will see what the shipping cost will be.  That will give me an idea roughly the cost.  I am not looking to make money but I don't want to get stuck paying part of the shipping.  I probably should have done this first before I started this thread. |O

How's shipping across the pond? Does that kill the deal?

I don't have a USPS account but it looks like the cheapest First-Class Package International Service is $14.00 USD.  I can double check when I am there tomorrow.

If you're UK based Scram, I'll chip in with you for some of those if you don't want them all

Since there are at least 3 of you across the pond, I sent scram a message that I can ship 24 of them for $23.50 by the cheapest(probably longest) method to get them there.  Then you can divide and conquer.  I am waiting to hear from him.

Happy to take the reins on that one if Scram can't.

It doesn't really make sense for me to do it, so go ahead. :)

If it helps with the numbers then I'll go for a couple on the UK bulk buy.

Thank you to all that participated.  They are all taken.  I hope everyone enjoys them.  I will be shipping everything out on Saturday.  That will be the easiest for me as work has been very unpredictable.

I want to thank GreyWoolfe for sending the forceps. This was incredibly generous.

Generous of you GreyWoolfe. :-+

But just as an FYI, those are hemostats, not forceps.  (curved ones are sometimes called “Mayo clamps”).

Forceps are what non medical people call “tweezers”.

Sorry to be pedantic.  Carry on!

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words.  I knew taking them to my ham radio club meeting would have been a waste of time.  Between my fellow technicians and some members here on the blog, they all found good homes by people who will actually use them, not take them and put them in a drawer.

I was going to throw your pedantry back at you and tell you it's spelled haemostat, but it seems both spellings are acceptable. (Probably the Americans' fault again.)

They're a Haemostat when they're used in surgery on a blood vessel and a hemostat when they're used to hold fabric for sewing.
