[SOLD]: Agilent 34410A 6.5-digit DMM
« on: July 11, 2018, 04:59:00 pm »
Hi,

my Agilent 34410A is up for sale.
It is in a good working condition with minor signs of usage except for three spots on the top of the metal case where the paint is damaged (probably caused by some stickers / s. pictures) and two thin three centimeter long scratches at the bottom of the case and one on the left side. The creme-white front panel has a age-related slight yellowish hue.
The VFD (brightness) is like new.
According to Keysight's 'Infoline' the last calibration has been performed on the 25.06.2015.

The 34410A isn't the successor of the 34401A, it's a new series of multimeters (34410A/34411A/L4411A). The 34410A is the predecessor of the new 34465A.
The 34410A has slightly better or similar specs than the new 34461A and of course better specs than the 34401A.

The 34410A feautures many improvements over the 34401A like:
  • a better accuracy
  • two additional current ranges: 1 mA and 100 µA
  • an additional 1 GOhm range
  • offset compensated ohms !
  • a second display line for simultaneous real-time peak measurements
  • a capacitance measurement function
  • a temperature measurement function (2/4-wire RTD and thermistor)
  • USB and LAN connectivity with LXI class C support
  • a much higher throughput up to 10 000 readings/s @ 5.5 digits or 1000 readings/s @ 6.5 digits (the 34401A can only do 6 readings/s @ 6.5 digits) - can be used as a digitizer e.g. for spectral analysis of 1/f opamp noise
  • a larger sample memory up to 50 000 readings
  • a data logging function saving up to 50 000 readings in non-volatile memory
  • a precision sample timer
  • much lower trigger jitter

... and some other features, see:

Interesting.  I have two HP label 34401As and they look very different.  Completely different front panel layout.

Absolutely amazing instruments.  One of mine had not been calibrated since it left the factory.  The other about 10 years ago.  Both spot on when checked with a DMMCheck Plus.

Note that this is the 34410A, not the 34401A. HP, Agilent and Keysight like to keep their numbering distinct and recognisable.  ::)

Don't worry, even non dyslexics get caught out by these and a few others that are pretty close. Luckily, both models are very solid meters.

I've also experienced that distinct numbering scheme confusion with a colleague a while ago ;)

The 34410 is a more accurate than the 34401 and has additional features and improvements (I've added a list and a link to a comparison sheet above).
I've looked up the calibration message of mine which should be date when it has been adjusted the last time. It states 2006. According to the Infoline entry it has been received within spec in 2015 and doesn't need to be adjusted.
So this meter has been also in spec for more than 9 years and it probably still is. The 34401 and the 34410 are nice instruments indeed :)
