(SOLD) Digital X-Ray imaging plate plus information
« on: May 22, 2018, 11:24:37 am »
For Sale from my excess inventory of X-Ray related equipment......

One Trophy DIGIPAN digital X-Ray imaging plate.

Detail:

This X-Ray imaging plate was an upgrade to the Trophy panoramic Dental X-Ray system. It is a self contained image acquisition plate that passes its image data out in a format that can be used to create the X-Ray image. The communications bearer is RS422 and the power supply requirements are +5V, +15V and -15V.

This plate is unusual in that it is a strip sensor that is moved to create the X axis part of the image. The Y image axis is apparently 1244 pixels. The width of a scan is limited only by the users ingenuity in mounting the plate. The x-Axis movement is tracked using a built in linear optical encoder. Image acquisition is continuous whilst the plate is exposed to X-Ray energy as it is auto sensing.

A chap has gained access to the technical information on the plate and created a working system using it with a relatively low power X-Ray source. He created an interface to reconstruct the image data for display on a PC. Excellent work that he has kindly made public domain here:

Check out all the updates and videos for a good understanding of the plates use.

Data for the project is here:

The chaps Twitter account:

My sincere thanks to forum member 'Lukier' for informing me about this chaps work wit the Digipan plate. Without this information the plate was a total unknown and not useable.

My original comment on the plate when I purchased it:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews/x-ray-imaging-the-trophy-digipan-130mm-x-300mm-digital-imaging-plate-inside/

It should be noted that this plate does require some form of linear rail system on which to slide, as can be seen in the above referenced project. The results appear excellent however.

These plates originally cost £15K and mine was confirmed functional before sale. I looks unused and is in superb unmolested condition. I have not opened it or done anything with it since purchase in 2016.

I am asking £120 plus postage for this plate which I believe is fair. I am making a loss on it at that price, but it is doing no good sitting in its storage case awaiting my attention.

Located in the UK, but I will ship overseas.

I am interested,

Considering the amount of information avaliable on it now, any specific reasons its for sale? The deal looks good.

How much lifetime can be expected from it (If I design a whole project around this, and it gives up the ghost, that would really suck)

or do these things generally last 'forever'

Hi CM800,

Thanks for your interest and PM.

It is yours, subject to completion :)

Regarding its condition. It genuinely appears unused. The life of these plates is the same as that of a CCD based digital camera if it is not abused. So that is a very long time :) . X-Ray tubes have a life, like any other Thermionic valve and they degrade with use, but still last a long time :) Plates usually only die if abused. This plate is well protected in its foam padded case and has a "Serviceable" tag on it when purchased.

Why am I selling it ?   ..... I went through a phase of buying all manner of kit related to X-Ray production and imaging. Of all that kit, I only use the Faxitron MX-20 and so all the excess needs to find new homes :) I am selling it for almost what I paid for it. I bought it as it looked a good deal, but the lack of any information on it made it of little use to me. That has now changed with the work of that clever chap who created a 'decoder' interface for it. I have no need of it though and have just sold my Dental X-Ray head so no X-Ray source for it now either.

Hi Fraser, how is your Faxion workign?  Are you able to image PCBS with it well?    What did you have to add to it to make it useful.

The Faxitron MX-20's have worked perfectly since I first got them. I use them for, amongst other things, reverse engineering PCB's. There are lots of pictures in an X-Ray image thread I authored some time ago. No modifications needed.
