NOTE:  If you send your request via PM and I do not respond, please check that your Inbox is not full.  Three or four times now I had the part someone was seeking and I had no way to reach them because my reply bounced back.

I recently purchased some large cabinets from a General Electric Motor factory to be used in my workshop for storage.  When they were delivered, I was surprised to see the drawers filled with NEW electronic parts.  Literally 1000’s and 1000’s of parts, neatly organized and labeled!!!  Apparently, these cabinets were used to store the factory’s test equipment repair parts and I’m guessing they had a department dedicated to repairing the equipment.

Besides drawers labeled specifically with HP, Tektronix, and Fluke, there were many drawers filled with NEW generic semiconductors, such as transistors (2NXXXX series), diodes (1NXXXX series), Integrated Circuits (such as ADXXX, CDXXX, LMXXX, MCXXX UAXXX, etc.), varistors, and bridges, .  Being a longtime engineer, I’m somewhat familiar with this equipment and know there are people out there needing these parts to keep their aging equipment running, so I am trying to get the word out that there is hope for you.

I’m just getting set up to list the items on ebay.  Since this isn’t my day job, it may be years before I get around to listing the part you are looking for (LOL), so please let me know the parts you need here in this thread and I will get it listed first.  <edit> It seems to be working out to sell these part directly to you via this forum and bypassing ebay, so keep the requests coming and I will keep the parts shipping!  Thanks!

Here is a listing of the specific brand parts I have available as I start this endeavor (quantities vary and are generally greater than one).  Keep in mind I have drawers full of other generic electronic parts, so send a part number and I will let you know if I have it.

Pricing these old and rare parts is somewhat difficult for me, and generally, I will discount the best "in-stock" price I find on the internet by at least 25%.  So feel free to do your research, find the lowest price, and tell me where you found it while making requests for parts.  If I save time, you save money!

Note: Part numbers with strikethrough font have been sold out... Sorry, but you should have placed your order sooner!  LOL

Note: If you don't see the part number listed here, its likely I don't have it.  Feel free to inquire about a part number, however, because I may still be able to point you in the right direction.

Great score and I hope there are very specific parts in your collection which can make some people happy.
Personally I could use an HP 0960-0822 / QRPG-A494 encoder for a 6572A power supply.

Are the labels printed or hand-written?
If they are printed and clear in the pictures then it might be possible to get a list via OCR.
Or we could dice up the images, share them around and do the graft for you.

Wow, impressive haul. Have you got a feel for exactly how many parts you're now sitting on?
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

I saw some Tek plugin pull tabs in one of these drawers. There are plugin addicts fans here who'd probably go for those. I shall drop a note in the TEA thread.

Some of the electronic components are actually just standard parts. In fact some of the standard part numbers are written on the labels, like "74LS...".  Not worth much probably.  You also probably have components that are either proprietary and/or long out of production, and are therefore rare and valuable.  There are real gems, like those knobs and dials. The 366-0636-00 are likely worth at least $10 a piece, very hard to find, especially in new condition. Same idea for almost any other part that fits on the outside of the gear. People will often accept a good working but ugly fix on the inside, but want it to look perfect on the outside.  Posting a list here will definitely attract some google hits and sales for those... eventually. If you just want to get rid of it instead of selling it off piece by piece over many years, then consider inquiring to places like http://www.sphere.bc.ca/test/ who specialize in parts for this old gear.

Will you be maintaining the list as you sell out?

I have both parts that you need.  PMs were sent.

And yes, I'm still interested and would love to see this go to people that can actually use it!  There are drawers full of generic resistors, LEDs, etc that I might be able to use, but these equipment specific parts will be sold.

Hi,

I also need some of the green push on scope buttons
and a tektronix light blue plastic piece that goes over the analog scope display,
it protects the gtaticle glass only.

If I find a part number I add to it.

Thanks

Thanks for your interest!  I sent a PM regarding the other HP parts you were looking for.

As far as the ones you mention here, part numbers would help a bunch because I'm not familiar with the actual test equipment they are used in.  Thanks again.

Hello cycle_collector,
what a treasure you have found! Thanks for being so thoughtful and offering these items to a community which is starving from parts shortage for their restoration projects!
I had a lot of instruments (~300) until a year or so until some family turmoil forced me to get rid of a good share of them. Nevertheless, there are quite some left that are waiting for service (I only sold the functional items). I moved to a new place recently where there is a lot of space to start all over.
For my current restoration projects (a 8660C-H04 and a 8640B-Opt.323, both lightning-struck) I am looking for the following hp parts: 1820-0571, 1820-1060 (if one more shows up), 1826-0092, 1826-0007, 1826-0114, 1854-0221, 1854-0492, 1855-0049,1990-0311, 1990-315, 1990-0330. More to come. I would be very glad if you could help, thanks in advance!

Thanks to all the forum members that have purchased parts thus far.  I have plenty of items left so take a look at the list and see if there is something you need.

Shipping worldwide from my USA location has typically been under US$14.  Domestic is around $7.

Happy Holidays to those that celebrate this time of year!

I haven't checked for the part number, because I don't know it, but do you have the plastic power button 'knob' for a Tektronix TDS2014?

If the power button is on the top of the unit, I believe the p/n is 366-0774-00.  Unfortunately, I do not have it for you.  Sorry.  But Nappy New Year to you!

Would you mind sharing the inventory spreadsheet? I just picked up several pieces of test equipment at auction (Tektronix and HP/Agilent) and a few of them need repairs. Would be handy to peruse as I'm troubleshooting them!

Off the bat, any transformers? P/Ns are HP:

06671-40003 (bracket)
06671-40002 (clamp)
9100-4864 (bias transformer)
5080-1982 (bias transformer, updated P/N)

Thanks! Appreciate the effort to make this stuff useful.

Congrats on the acquisitions.  If you send me your email address via a PM, I can reply with the list.  Unfortunately, I don't have any HP parts beyond the 3101- series, so no luck on the transformers.  Sorry.  Hopefully I have some others that will help though.  The list at the beginning shows the Tektronix and HP labeled parts I have.

I'm interested in Fluke part# 288324 & 261578
I see both listed in your post under the Fluke part numbers.

Do you still have them?
If so, how many do you have and what's the price of each.

Thanks,
Tony

Hi,
I would need the Tektronix part 196-3305-00, if possible few of them. But I'm not willing to pay $35 for shipping some ground leads for old probes to Germany. Maybe if somebody other from Germany orders something, you can put these small cables in the same package and the German person sends them to me for a tip.
So when you (random German guy) feel addressed, write me a pm before shipping and eventually I will get these someday :)

Momchilo,

I have just one of those leads available and it is new.  From a past order to Germany, international shipping was US$14 via the United States Post Office.  So maybe you don't have to wait.  Private Message me and we can talk about the specifics of an order if you wish to proceed.  Thanks.

You should probably set up a public Google spreadsheet that only you could edit for the inventory so people don't have to keep asking you if you still have a certain item.

I'm not really interested in the HP or Tektronix specific parts but rather the generic parts. How much would you consider selling the lot of generic diodes and transistors for?

Sorry for any errors, typed this out with my phone. IX

I am an EE with interests in Embedded, RF, Control Systems, and Nanotech.

That's a great suggestion because then people could see quantities remaining and descriptions too.  I will say, I try to keep the list in this thread current with the items sold out.

Yes, I would consider selling lots, and I would deeply discount it if doing so.  PM me with your email and I will be glad to send you the Excel inventory list to make it easier for you to see what I have available and we can take up the discussion from there.

Thanks for your interest!

Thanks for the recent orders!

Every time I buy an old motorcycle part on ebay or similar, I think about the great service the bike wreckers are providing me - a source for old (sometime rare) parts to repair my old collection, at a reasonable cost.  I don't know where else I would find the stuff.  It makes my hobby affordable, therefore, achievable.  I then think of the forum members here who are in somewhat the same position, needing parts.  I'm glad I can help you keep the old hardware running.

I actually contacted the seller about a possible error when the cabinets showed up filled with parts.  He said "No, I figured you might know what to do with them".  He was right!

It was bad luck for both of us...  I had 10 and they are all gone now.  Three of them were sent out via USPS a month ago and the postal service lost them, so I had to send out another set to the customer.  There are three out there somewhere, unaccounted for.  If these lost ones ever show up, I will let you know.

I'm looking for a HP IC part.  Number:  1858-0008.  It also might be listed as LTB1858-0008.
I have also seen these chips with the Motorola logo on them along with the part number listed above.

Thanks,
Tony

Sorry Tony, I can't help you with that part.  1858-0054 is the closest I have.  Good luck with your search.

Not sure if my PM made it but I’d be interested in the 3101-2216 switch(es). Thanks for making these parts available!

Sorry Bob, I'm not sure why I didn't get a notification of someone replying in this thread.  The answer is yes to 1855-0410, I have 9 of them new in packaging.  I don't have the other, unfortunately, and I don't have a X-ref for it either to check the generic numbers.  I will shoot you a PM.

I didn't get a notification for you either, so I'm glad you PM'd.  Your part should be arriving soon.

I hope everyone is doing well amid this coronavirus pandemic.

I will not be able to send out any international shipments in the near future until things are under control (sorry), but for the forum members in the USA, I can still ship things out via USPS Priority and First Class mail from my home.  Being locked up in our houses may be a great time to fix up that old equipment!

I have an HP-5345A with supposedly a faulty front panel. My manual only covers operation, not maintenance. Consequently, I don't have a part number. Can you help me with a front panel, or at least a part number, please?

I'm sorry, but without a part number, I won't be able to help you.  Perhaps search some more for a parts list, or maybe someone here can chime in to help you determine the number.

I need a 150-0047-00

it's a tiny thing, seems silly to ship just that, I'm going to look around and see if I need anything else also
I'm new here, but I tend to be pretty gregarious, so if I'm out of my lane please call me out.

Thanks for your interest.  I have 4 new lamps available to ship immediately.  Your country is not showing up for some reason, but if you are outside the USA, I will not be able ship these until the government lifts the "stay-at-home" order.  I will private message a quote.

I just received a parcel with a lot of great goodies from Mark. Very easy process, great prices, great discounts and there are tons of useful stuff still there.

Just a reminder: the USPS took quite some time to deliver due to weather (similar to the other thread about Mouser).

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

  • Lots of engineer-tweakable parts inside!
I must say I'm impressed with cycle_collector's perseverance to continue making these parts available rather than dumping them and running away screaming. This process started back in 2017!

Thanks for the kind words!  You folks are a pleasure to work with.  I'm not trying to make big bucks here, mostly just trying to get compensated for my time and effort in getting these parts shipped out.  And yes, still lots of parts left for those restoration projects.

P.S.  I think USPS has things back on track lately so no worries there anymore, luckily.

Wow, 2017...  time sure does fly!!!  Sometimes I ask if it's all worth it, but then I think about that guy with a vital old motorcycle part I need that ends up listing it on ebay instead of tossing it.  Even after 5 years, I would still find it extremely hard to toss out all this good stuff.  But if the right buyer came along to take the whole lot off my hands and get it to people that need it, I would give them a great deal.

I met some nice folks along the way and hope to meet a few more before it's all over.

HP 1854-0019?
Hi Dave.  Normally my inventory is NOS, but in this case, I have one used transistor in a bag.  The bin, however, is showing an alternate number of 2N3859 and it appears those are readily available on ebay.

If you are in the USA and want this used one, PM me.  It's yours for the cost of shipping (probably $1 in a first class envelope)

Thank you CC, but I need two.  Thanks for the 2N3859 ref, I hadn't heard that before.  Is it typed or a scribble?  One of the UK Vintage Radio Forum cross-refs says Selected 2N2369, or (unselected) 2N2368, so we can guess that the 2N2369 was selected for low beta.

2N2369 is available from Central Semi, but if you think the original HP is selected or would be better I have some (used) in my small hoard of scrap HP boards.  I can desolder two and mail them if you like, just PM me.  The leads will be a bit short, but should be usable as replacements in HP-ware.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

BDunham, I'll keep your kind offer in my back pocket if experimenting with what I have lying around falls flat.

I don't think it's a very demanding application - I want to add the "Restore Signal" function to my low-serial-number 8443A Tracking Generator.  Normally it builds the output signal starting with a 3MHz crystal oscillator, mixing it with the various oscillators in the spectrum analyzer.  Restore Signal turns off the crystal and substitutes the 3MHz IF signal from the spectrum analyzer, so the 8443 puts out a strong, levelled wave at whatever frequency is coming in through the SA's passband.  To add this feature we need to amplify then limit the 3MHz IF signal to drive the mixer.  HP did this with a cascode then an emitter follower then a differential pair.  One diff pair collector goes to the diode ring modulator in parallel with the disabled crystal oscillator output.  The cascode and emitter follower are HP's favorite NPN, 1854-0071, while the diff pair is 1854-0019.  Since we're only running at 3MHz, I figure the important characteristics are Cob, gain, and power output, and we don't actually need hundreds of megahertz Ft even though we get that too.

How on earth did I miss this thread until now??

I'm after a slide switch, HP 3101-0803, though I feel like that part number may be for the whole multi-button assembly and all I really need is enough pieces of a similar switch to cobble something together from.

Here's a picture of the whole assembly, the slide switch second from the top is missing the plastic wafer thing and contacts. It basically got eaten by leaking batteries before I owned this 419A, and after a good cleanup that was the only lasting damage, I recall having it fully working with a couple crocodile clips for that section but that wasn't a long term solution obviously, just a test setup. Any similar parts to the other ones would be enough to get this back in action after it's sat on a shelf for the past 2 years or so 😂

If you've got anything that I might be able to shoehorn in there I'd really appreciate it!

Also sorry to say I don't have the part you seek.  Good luck hunting!
