Keysight U1733C LCR Meter And more! 10% savings on Newegg
« on: August 18, 2015, 05:51:20 pm »
Just posted this in the Test Equipment forum, I should here post here instead.

Just a heads up to anyone in the USA who might be interested. I went looking for a good price on a Keysight U1733C LCR meter and I came across a promo from Newegg. The meter is sold by a company named Zoro and along with free shipping, if you put in the promo code ZOROSALE you will get a $42.95 discount off of the order. Ended up costing me 386.54 complete. Promo ends Aug. 22.

I double checked and found that anything sold by Zoro on the Newegg site is free shipping and 10% off listed price with the ZOROSALE promo code till Aug. 22.

OP left this out.  Zoro  http://www.zoro.com/keysight-technologies-handheld-lcr-meter-u1733c/i/G3748193/

But I could not find a place to enter a promo code.  They said that you could enter it during checkout but that was a lie!

There is a  place for it, at checkout, under the summary of items, you can enter a promocode, not so hard to find.

However, the promocode is invalid.. that was the message I got at least.

You need to put in a zip code before it shows the promo code box.

Also, I checked, it looks like the code is good for anything sold by Zoro through Newgg. At least the Keysight stuff. Maybe more.

Is this so much better than the de-5000 that it's worth it?

Hmm

Appearance is irrelevant, show me the numbers - side by side measurements of reference values. Don't get me wrong, I'd take the U1733C over the DE-5000 any day, but I'm not convinced that it's so much better. Doing LCR-measurements is easy - it's all math - one chip does that just fine.

It's a really good LCR meter, worth every cent IMO.

Debatable. The DE-5000 is better bang-per-buck, so if you are strapped for cash it's a better buy.
I remember doing some comparisons between the DE-5000 and the U1733C at the local cal lab (they were looking to maybe stock the DE-5000) and it wasn't as accurate as the agilent. Or at least the unit I had wasn't. Plus there were issues with the jacks on it not being the right size IIRC.

Found this review, looks like they are very close? http://ittsb.eu/de-5000.html

The photos show a lot - I see from those pics older tech vs newer tech and that the DE5000 has proper 4 wire kelvin connections even to the banana sockets while the U1733C doesn't?

The 4wire is with the blade connectors on the DE
It looks like the U1733c also have some sort of blade connector slots?, but no availble connector?, or is it just other type of slots?

On the DE Its 4 wire to the jack sockets too - they are split barrels. I don't know of any official leads for them. Perhaps something like FlukeTL2X4W-PTII are compatible?

The blade connector on the Agilent doesn't look like its split into 4 wire to me.

Whatever happened to that guy? He seemed quite prolific on EEV a few years ago but his profile shows he's banned?
(Perhaps I shouldn't pry...  :-X)

Yes, i found some teardown pictures of the u1733c, the blade connectors are not split, very strange that they used that type, and didn't do as the DE.
Hm, I have all the cables for the DE, maybe I need to have a closer look, didn't know that there existed split barrels..

I have a DE-5000 and two U1733C... All three are within, as Dave says, half-a-bee's-dick of each other. I primarily use the DE-5000 on my bench because I have all of the accessories for it, including the Extech SMD adaptor. One U1733C is in my field kit, and the other is on my inventory/packaging bench. It's nice to have the comparison between two different manufacturers, but if I hadn't gotten a deal on the U1733C meters I'd have three DE-5000s -- best bang for the buck as others have written.
