FOUND SOME - Wanted: MC3371P

MC3371P: Motorola Low Power Narrowband FM IF (16-pin PDIP). MC3361's won't do. I need the RSSI output on the MC3371.

It seems that the only place you can buy these any more is from China. Besides, I don't trust buying this type of part from the orient. Too many fake chips. Just looking at the pictures of these chips online makes me cringe.

If you have some authentic, NOS Motorola chips on the shelf, that is what I'm looking for. I'd be willing to drop $20 on five, including shipping. Please make sure to ship in an anti-static plastic IC tube, and put it in either a small box, or a padded envelope. I've had chips mangled before.

I don't have Paypal. I can pay via Pop Money or cash.

Spectrum communications had these in stock recently. Their web site is down this morning but I’ve been using them for years for this sort of stuff.

If you need log converter in those ICs also look at AD8307 from Aliexpres. Have had lots of good luck there.

Thanks. I just emailed them about shipping costs to the US.

According to the datasheet, the RSSI output is linear, 1 uA per dB, from -100 dB to -40 dB.

I want to directly replace a MC3361 in a radio, and be able to measure RSS via A/D. The MC3371 and some current to voltage conversion should do what I want.

I tried doing this with the stock MC3361 via squelch noise, but that is very non-linear.

They’re a great company. A guy and his wife living next to the sea. You still get hand written receipts. Order all my cables and a load of parts from them.

I’m doing a similar thing with the AD8307. You’d need an AD602 PGA in in front of it to get -100dB however. Feeding that into an MCP3201 and reading power via a PIC. Was cheaper than a working HP power sensor

Nope. This is for a radio that already has an MC3361. This is for an over-the-air measurement (just a fun project). For bench work, I have an HP 8920B. I can calibrate the modded radio using the HP.

Roger on the cost of HP power sensors :-(
