WTB: Old Analog 2-channel scope (UK)
« on: June 21, 2017, 06:08:39 pm »
Hi everyone,
I'm a mechanical engineering student trying to teach myself electronics. I picked up a copy of Learning the Art of Electronics and I'm slowly working my way through it at my university, but our lab is only open 9-5, so I'm trying to set one up at home. Following Dave's advice, I'm looking for an affordable 20+ MHz analog scope from somewhere in the UK for under £50 shipped (for my tiny student budget - ideally even less than that). If you have one gathering dust on your shelf, I'd love to give it a home. Thanks!

Have a look on eBay for a old scope. Something by Hameg will probably do for student use, but Gould and other brands will probably be suffice.

Can highly recommend eBay sellers Computerdisposals in runcorn for used stuff, they don't test and grade stuff accordingly but I've had great luck with their sales and they are cheap.

They've got a few 'scopes going through now, Hameg and others.

I'd recommend Hameg, they're a no nonsense 'scope and are simple to understand, the one I have triggers far more reliably than quite a few much more expensive machines I've used.

Also documentation will probably easier to find for Hameg than for some of the other lesser known brands.

Thanks a lot for all the responses. The wonderful Anks offered me his old Tek 475 for a very good price, but unfortunately it got damaged in transit. When I was chatting about it with a technician in our EE lab, he took me to a room full of old Hitachi scopes and Thandar function generators which he has just been told to get rid of and now I'm fully equipped!
