WTB: Analog Devices ADALM-PLUTO SDR
« on: November 23, 2017, 09:36:39 pm »
I am looking for an Adalm Pluto revision B (You can see the PCB version by undoing the screws and removing the top cover)
I am after a revision B as I would like two units which are as close to identical as I can get.

If anyone has one they want to sell, I'll pay the RRP of $149 USD + shipping in good condition. Prefer someone local, but I have a US shipping address.

Take my money now, and get yourself a new one (which I assume will be revision C) when they come out in January.

FWIW, mine just arrived from Mouser, after ordering it on August 23 2017. In the meantime, about a week ago I ordered one direct from AD who were showing stock, intending to cancel the Mouser order, but I forgot. The AD order has yet to ship despite them showing stock at the time of my order.

Thanks, good info.

I think you will have the new 'C' model in that case, as last I checked they were very close to shipping.

Ideally I was after the 'B', as then I would have two identical units - I might just get one anyway as don't think much changed.

Looks like it's a rev B if I am understanding correctly.

Hmm, now I can't find the info about how to tell which version is which from the PCB.

I assumed it was what's written on the board.

It's an interesting device, not least that it's about a $200 BOM at 1ku, half of that is AD parts, so I guess they do themselves an especially favourable price in the marketing cross charge.

At a retail price of $150, IHVs are out of the game.

Aha thanks. I didn't notice as it is close to invisible on my screen, and/or my eyes are on the way out.

Weird that Mouser just shipped it. I see they are OOS again at Mouser.

Anyway, let me know if you decide to sell it when the other one arrives.

Wilco: I'm still going through the setup. This is hardly a turnkey device!

It's early days, but I fear it might be a bit of a Red Pitaya in terms of documentation: their documentation was continually out of date, buy they kept pushing you to try the latest version, each time bringing with it as many problems as it fixed. Software guys always gonna fiddle!

I didn't get one of those, but I think the Pluto is much more of a DIY device than the Red Pitaya.
The setup for GNU Radio will probably be painful as well, but on the plus side it's a very powerful tool once you get your head around it.

I’m fine with GNU radio, once I have it installed that is!

If pluto is more DIY than Red Pitaya... hmmm. However, the stuff I was doing with the Red Pitaya was custom embedded code, I didn’t use any of the apps. I just found the software build experience around the Red Pitaya to be extremely painful, which is a shame because the hardware itself is reasonably sound.

Anyway, I got the oscilloscope application up and running reasonably quickly.

I’d recommend that they forget about the networking and serial stuff during the initial walkthrough, it just clutters everything for the newcomer. At least they seen to keep old versions of documentation and software available which is more than can be said for Red Pitaya.

I compiled it on Macos X. It was a royal pain in the ass but it worked.

Anyway the most straightforward way to use the Pluto is either Matlab or GNU Radio I guess.

Right, my second one just arrived direct from AD.

Do you still want a Rev B?
