WTB: Oscilloscope Training Kit (Board/Module)
« on: February 17, 2017, 02:15:52 pm »
I would like to buy an oscilloscope training kit/board/module, a signal generator which outputs a wide variety of real-life scenario signals, including digital protocols like I2C, CAN and RS232.

Two good alternatives I've found is the Keysight N2740A:

http://www.keysight.com/en/pd-1599231-pn-N2740A/1000-series-education-training-kit

And the GW Instek GDB-03:

http://www.gwinstek.com/en-global/products/Oscilloscopes/Oscilloscope_Training_Kits/GDB-03

But these boards are $305 and $350 (!!!)

I am sure someone has one to spare? (Documentation would be great, physical or digital, but not necessary)

Maybe you could also consider the Siglent STB-3 as an alternative, for 'only' 200$.

Have you looked into the Tektronix course using an Arduino? It's all free if you buy an inexpensive Arduino kit or build your own circuits.

There is a Rigol DS6000-DK, a Siglent training board STB-3; both of recent vintage in the $200 range.

Back in the 1990s, HP had a board too, 54654A which can be found used under $100.

A reason you don't see much in circulation is that schools can use them for long periods.

The HP Keysight have a good workbook that comes with them, the Keysight curriculum is much simpler than HP and both don't come with serial decode signals compared to the newer boards.

From an educational point of view, the upcoming Keysight 1000X series has  training signals built into the firmware, at least so says the spec sheets, so you can jump it fairly quickly.

I suggest to get Rigol DS1000D-TK (only ~30€/32USD). It provides digital and analog training signals.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Also found a board by Rohde & Schwarz, but only a picture, no name/model or sales listing, anyone know it?

Looks like it could be cheap, using only a PIC it looks like.

Looks like they only use it for their own courses/workshops :/

That looks handy, thanks for the tip! I have some spare arduinos not doing anything.
