WTB [EU/DE] Spectrum/Signal/Network Analyzer for NF/Audio Range
« on: January 08, 2018, 11:40:58 am »
Hey everyone, been looking for a cheap Analyzer for NF Audio Frequencies. Nothing too fancy, I need mostly THD and frequency Response Analysis to test Audio Applications and Filters.
Should be located in EU/DE to keep shipping costs down. Pickup in DE and part of BE and NL should be possible.

Written from the damn mobile so excuse potential mistakes in typing.

For cheap (and excellent results) I would use a soundcard in the pc together with a software program like ARTA, Holmimpulse, Room EQ Wizard,RMAA or any other program that fits your needs.

This solution typically gets much better results than older professional gear, and you can do much more with it. You could build something like this (http://www.pmillett.com/ATEST.htm) to have some protection between the soundcard and the pc, but in my opinion that is not really necesarry.

For really really low distortion measurements you could build this one: http://www.cordellaudio.com/instrumentation/distortion_magnifier.shtml

Thank you for the recommendations Wim! I will read through those articles, at first glance that sounds very promissing. I have several professional soundcards flying in the spare part box, I don't actually know why I didn't think about that sooner...

For reference, I was getting 0.003% THD with a USB scarlett solo v2 in loopback (192kHz).
There is another good thread here where this site is linked: https://www.trueaudio.com/rta_usb.htm

Some higher end soundcards are a factor of ten better apparently. Although, not sure how relevant this is for real world measurements.

If you really just want audio frequencies, the QuantAsylum QA401 might be something to look at:
https://quantasylum.com/products/qa401-audio-analyzer

If you need a bit higher frequencies, say for example to analyze power supply issues in your audio circuit, you might consider the PicoScope 4262:
https://www.picotech.com/oscilloscope/4262/picoscope-4262-overview

It is just 16 Bits, so a better soundcard will beat it. But it goes up to 5 MHz / 10 MSPS.
