Any good electronics place in Bangkok?
« on: May 20, 2018, 03:35:12 am »
I am in Thailand for two weeks (Bangkok) - anyone knows of any place worth visiting for buying electronics? Not consumer electronics, but components or test equipment.

Wondering if being relatively close to China means anything in terms or prices? I read online that consumer electronics and other stuff is not really worth due to import taxes that make things here not so cheap. But well, who knows for components and similar stuff!

I got very good tips in the forum before for my trips to US, hopefully someone has good ones for BKK as well  :D

Many of my lower-priced parts come from Tayda.  When I want stuff that is of higher quality (or surer of its original source), I use Mouser.  For run of the mill stuff, I have been using Tayda (on-line) for a few years.  They are reliable, low cost, and reasonable quality for the price.  Most of the time, I prefer them over some unknown aliexpress seller.

I am not sure if they have a store front or not.

Thanks for the tip! I know Tayda but never realized they're based in Thailand!

Even if they don't have a store I will order a couple things to be delivered to my Hotel - certainly helps with shipping cost and time. I have been wanting to order some of these old school XR-2206 function gen chips and I know they have it.

Again, thanks for the tip!

Been in Bangkok for a couple of months. I have found a couple places. First is Klong Thom center. Theoretically it is the car parts market but in and around it there are shops for everything. About a block away headed back to Hua Lamphong behind some phone case shops is a place that sells soldering stations, scopes and the like. There is also a shop on the top floor of Old Siam shopping plaza. Don't take the wife/gf the bottom floors are all dress and jewelry shops. Shop has a descent little selection of switches, terminals and connectors. Had a sale on Uni-T meters last time I was there at good prices. MBK is worth a stop. They have fake everything plus some real. Look to pay 1/2-2/3 there first offer.

Just wanted to thank you all again for the suggestions.

I did go to Ban Mo at least - if you like to be surrounded by electronics that's lots of fun. There are also flashlights (with "a"), fleshlights (with "e"), dildos, and a myriad of all sorts of crap one can imagine.

The place is a big mess - so it's not for the faint of heart but again, for electronics nerds probably worth stopping by after visiting Watt Po or the Grand Palace (it's quite close).
I imagine that is what Shenzen is like (but much larger there obviously)?

I didn't find prices to be particularly cheap. I did buy some (fake apparently) CR2032 and a super cap, but for no particular reason.

There are fake / cheap but also good things to be had - you can tell which store is which relatively easy. If its indoors and has AC it's already a good sign :-)

Here is a couple pictures I took.
