Going through some boards that are being tossed.

Anybody know what sort of transistor is?

I think its from a SDH system.

What does the board do?

It looks like an RF transistor.

Not RF but there were a few speciality transistors and FET devices that were supplied in that ceramic pill package. Generally Jfets and some dual gate MOSFETS were in those packagers, along with some varicap and PIN diodes.
