« on: October 18, 2011, 10:35:44 am »
Version 2.0 is now out:
http://www.home.agilent.com/agilent/editorial.jspx?cc=AU&lc=eng&ckey=2014548&nid=-35491.973678&id=2014548

They have added ARB capability to the function gen!
A video on it is rendering now.

Yup, ARB for no added cost, provided you have the WAVGEN option of course.

Thumbs up for the Agilent! I wondered why they did not implement it from start, possibly to protect their FG range. I wonder will my scope start to boot with this new firmware, cant wait to try it this evening.

Just updated!!!!

My boot problem is still present but the trial licenses are dead now! The scope does not allow to set the date any more back in past than 13.10.2011! Do not install this if you use trial licenses!!!

What happens if the RTC is set to an old time when the FW is installed?

Nope, when it was released they were caught by surprise how popular it was and had to ramp up the production rate.
In the blurb I have for the new firmware it says it is the fastest selling scope in Agilent's history, and that Agilent are growing at over 10% in the scope market compared to 3.5% for the rest of the industry.

I probably just all about marketing. They had the big scope release which was a huge success, and 7 months later they needed something new to wow the market with. It worked, I was excited enough about the arb release to do a video on it  ;D

With all the marketing actions Agilent are doing recently for the 3000x scope there must be something going on. (For instance why give them away if they are selling well?) Either they want to distinguish it more from the 2000x series, and/or it doesn't sell as much as they hoped. Too many customers are choosing the 2000x over it, and margins on 2000x are lower than 3000x. My amateur guess at least. ::)

If I would have known so many new options and functions are constantly coming for the 3000x and nothing for 2000x, I would have bought a 3000x instead. So I'm a bit disappointed. Anyway, 2000x is still a great scope!!

It does not care, it changes it to 13.10.2011.

As the comments for better improvments for 3000 series i guess its because there is a nice price difference, so customers should get more to justify it. Altrough if i could go back in past i would never, ever buy it.

Have anyone tried to reverse engineer the firmware and find a way to enable for free the extra features?

There is some talk about it, but all hide it. All what i have tried did not work, so its simply out of my knowledge.

I spoken with few members which found the way but they do not want to share it.
