I have 3 constantly pinned tabs. And all tabs that are open for a log time gets closed and the link copied into a large text file. If I found something so valuable to keep open, I probably want it saved for later as well.

It depends on what I'm doing, but usually only three or four. I don't think I've ever gone as high as ten.

I’m often in the 100+ range. I finally installed session buddy and tab wrangler plugins to tame it (only slightly).

Where's the zero option, for those who don't use tabs? ;)

Do I count each browser window's tabs cumulatively or do I average them out?  :)

I'm a FireFox user with Tree Style Tabs (as well as a tab unloader extension, and now a tab count extension), normally hovering between 60 and 110 tabs at any point.

(Work browsing is Chrome usually about a half dozen pinned tabs on my work machines)

All of them.

I've gotten very good at recognizing website logos.

For those with the same problems, check out Vivaldi as a browser. It can do some really awesome tab-magic

I am trying to cut down on my tablet. I am amazed and peeved that chrome requires 100-700MB of RAM per tab. It seems that web browsing is the biggest RAM user :(

Chrome does seems to take up a lot with 27 processes only for only 13 tabs (flash/html5 video disabled by default).
40% 3.25GB out of 8GB I estimate around 1.4GB used by Chrome.

Outch! 400MB per tab on average is outrageous!  :horse:

Also sad, especially now when most browser, including current Mozilla Firefox, are Chrome based.  Let's see, how much RAM to buy for 818 tabs in 77 windows?

818 x 400MB = F.U. Chrome! (about 300GB)
Firefox 54 was managing that many tabs with just a few GB of RAM, without using the swap file. The swap is a 1GB virtual disk kept in RAM, to spare extra SSD writings.

I use two or three different browsers. Safer if you have any sensitive page open. Tabs do have isolation if they are on different domains, problem is that two domains may load the same third party content, in which case the third party can see and correlate what's going on in both tabs.

I have so many chrome tabs open on my phone that it shows a smiley face rather than the number. Pretty sure it happens when you hit triple digits. Only 84 open in Firefox on the same phone

Currently 4 but I have hit as many as a dozen.  Apparently, I am simply a piker compared to some here.  The funny thing is, when Mrs GreyWoolfe wants to borrow my computer really quick for something and doesn't want to boot hers, it's always when I have that dozen open and it sets her into a tailspin. :-DD  I have to get mine when I can.  The only things that I do that drive her more crazy is military time and my 24 hour analog clock. :-+ :-+

I had like 400 tabs open before  :scared:

only 16gb of ram too. Usually firefox gets a weird bug that you need to task manager a buncha bullshit to make the computer usable again. There end up being a bunch of instances of firefox open in task manager all taking up ridiclous amounts of ram.

but less then 50 per window/instance I would say. This usually happens if I minimize, then open a new firefox and forget I had the old one open.

Hm, i'm a bookmarks person. They are way easier to sort, organize, move around and track than tabs.
Only times i have more than 1 tab open is when i'm actively working on something and need a variety of material in reach, or if i'm looking for something and have all the results loading in.

Typically between 100-200 Chrome tabs on a 16GB ram machine. Only goes below 100 if I've rebooted recently, and have been in the 300s before, though that's a recipe for trouble. My phone shows the

As someone who tends to have about 100 browser windows open at a given time (I don’t use tabs), I hear you. My RAM usage would plummet if I were more disciplined about browsers.

Oh, and watch what Facebook and Instagram tabs (as well as some others thanks to ads) do: over time, their RAM use can climb indefinitely. I’ve been known to find one of those using upwards of a gigabyte! Reloading brings it back down from the stratosphere.

And this is in Safari, which is (on the Mac) more frugal with RAM and CPU than Chrome or Firefox...  I shudder to think how much worse it’d be with those — or without an ad blocker to remove tons of superfluous JavaScript.
