I know how to add an attachment but how do I get a file on my PC to be an inline image?  Thanks...

I maybe wrong as I am not an expert BUT having looked at this myself it appears it will only allow you to add images located on a server somewhere as it asks for the image URL. I have used http://picpaste.com/ in the past but like all these sites the picture is eventually binned leaving your subscribers with no image :(

I often come across interesting articles on the web that are somewhat historical and sadly all the images are missing, so as these nice people seem to offer storage for who knows how long perhaps better to post them as attachments. I find about 50% of readers are interested enough to hit the view button :)

All you can do is make your post and attach the image. After doing that you can edit the post and insert the image inline by using the link to the full size image, obtained by using the browser "view image" option. The drawback is that the thumbnail remains awkwardly attached at the bottom of the post. The whole thing is rather clunky.

But when you open/view the image in a new tab, some browsers will automatically download it and then automatically close the tab (so there's no chance of copying the link)..so what I do is I go to my attachments and right-click on the attachment then "copy image address" and paste it inside the "{img}{/img}" tags on your post.
Hope that helps.;)

If I do that, all I get is a link to the thumbnail image, not the full size version.

Like this:

edit: I misunderstood. Use the text link, not the thumbnail. I'll try that next time.

That's probably because you selected "copy image location". You need to select "copy link location".

1. Hit imgur.com
2. Upload image
3. There’s a get Bbcode link. Copy that and paste it into your post.

Write your message, attach the images as attachments, hit the post button
When the page reloads, scroll down to your message and click on each thumbnail (if multiple) to expand it. Right click on each image, select Copy Image Location (in firefox) and paste it in Notepad or something or just leave it in Clipboard if it's only one image.
Then hit the modify button and use  img tags with the url between them

1. Attach the image.
2. Post the message and attachment.
3. Click to view the attachment, right-click, Copy Image Address
4. Edit post, paste link between [img] tags (or use the embed-image button on the toolbar).
5. Save edit.

This is how I do it:
Write your message, attach the images as attachments, hit the post button
When the page reloads, scroll down to your message and click on each thumbnail (if multiple) to expand it. Right click on each image, select Copy Image Location (in firefox) Copy Image Address (in Chrome) and paste it in Notepad or something or just leave it in Clipboard if it's only one image.
Then hit the modify button and use  img tags with the url between them

This is the same process as described by T3sl4co1l.

...until imgur decides to charge money and break existing images. Using the forum’s own hosting is much less likely to result in missing images years from now.

This ^  My Photobucket account just got dropped and they 'invited' me to upgrade to a higher tier at vastly increased cost. I just deleted everything, hundreds of photos, and told them where to stick it.

Agreed, this forum is missing so many useful photos now due to Photobucket!  |O

An interesting case in point - note how the second poster in that thread now has the Photobucket ransom note as his personal photo - I can't work out whether it is deliberate or not.  :-\
Best Regards, Chris

I used to use Picasa until Google "upgraded" that service to appeal to the Snapchat generation, breaking image links in the resulting mayhem. I try to use Google Photos in IMG links but it's hit and miss with the results.  Best to use the site's hosting service.

It's not deliberate.  He does use Photobucket for that image - and has obviously not felt like coughing up a few hundred dollars for the ongoing privilege.

It's not hard to track down the image he was using - the link still points to it.  All you have to do is follow the link, resolving the % escape characters...
