Certification Courses that are worth investing on?
« on: February 22, 2018, 06:47:53 pm »
Hi All,

I just recently started working as full-time freelance design Engineer. Is there any online certification that is worth spending money on for either worthwhile content or simply to look good with potential clients?
I've seen IPC CID/CID+ and Altium certificates, but they are both expensive, and the IPC one is not online, so it's a no go with those 2, at least for the time being.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Simon.

Apart from IPC Certifications, I don't think that any certification course exists that is worth investing in.

I'm IPC CID+ certified.
Well worth it, but expensive as you say. It was a 4 day extended course, but I think it's normally two days.
Best to get your company to pay for it, so one of the disadvantages of being self employed.

I just found this EMC certification:
https://inarte.org/certifications/inarte-emc-design-engineer-certification/
No idea about it though, but might sound good on your business card?

That's great Dave, I'll look into it. Well basically a little bit of both, I do want to improve my skills but, being a freelance engineer, I also want it to look good on paper.

How about the emcfastpass.com courses? The look serious to me.

Cheers!

What the heck does "IPC" stand for? They forgot to spell it out on their elite web site.  :wtf:

Oxford uni run a very good "Signal integrity and EMC" week, expensive and no certification as such, but well worth it for polishing your skills.

IPC used to mean Institute of Printed Circuits. They changed their name to just be IPC itself though.
