Chances of Filthy Abandoned Electronics Still Working
« on: July 23, 2017, 02:41:21 am »
I was waching Jurassic Park 2 and wondered about the scene where the guy used the abandoned radio to call for help. I mean, he just turned on the power and everything just magically turned on (except that lightbulb that exploded on him), despite everything being totally covered in plants and moss and inch thick mold! Whats the chance of stuff like that actually working? I mean it was all indoors, but the plants would infer excessive moisture, wouldn't it?

Ah yes - movies are great fun for the imagination aren't they?  :)
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

OK I got a question about Star Wars - why are people and or androids welding so much? In the hallways, on ships, everywhere. Seems like something always needs welded for some reason. Why is that huh?  :-//

I've noticed that too, a standard script filler,
perhaps timed when Harbor Freight and Bunnings located near the studio lots have store-wide specials on welders and accessories?   :-//

You would think soldering irons would get fired up too with rolls of bodge wire wheeled in, to get the command controls back on line
They can't have that many spare plugins stored, and a direct disruptor hit on a chassis frame will trash CB tracks   :scared:

FWIW, the repair dudes on Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea always have their act together   :-+

The caps wouldn't have been the problem, assuming it was purchased new, based on the storyline it was only abandoned for a few years, but it was in a tropical environment (hence rapid plant growth). However, if it was properly rated for tropical environments it would have an anti-fungal conformal coating. So potentially plausible. I also noticed a running CRT monitors peeking through the vines next to it.

How about the discovered abandoned spacecraft that has been floating in space for three hundreds of years and the engineer replaces the power source and everything works again movie.  :-+
Great flux capacitors I bet.
