The old saying is proved again: if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

This is ridiculous. So what capacity were they claiming?

It's like those pictures of the large capacity capacitor. The one where they put a small capacitor inside the can of a larger one to give it 'some' capacitance.
Come see my boring site - http://smackaay.com/

Here's an interesting article about the same type of scam, but with LEDs...

I bet if you took apart the 2200uF cap that was inside of the 6800uF cap you would find a 220pF disc capacitor.  :D

LOL

But I don't think this is true since the 2200uF cap is pretty decent quality (Rubycon). Not some chinese no name firm.

One can never have enough oscilloscopes.

I'm pretty sure the capacitor photo is a fake but the one of the LEDs is believable.

Why? Counterfeit caps are pretty easy and lucrative to do.

If I wanted to fake a capacitor I wouldn't put a good quality Rubycon capacitor inside a no-name case, I'd use a crappy capacitor of slightly lower capacitance, voltage and temperature rating.

It's China - they're probably counterfeit Rubycons... :)

couldn't see led, but HDD is possible, it's profitable. But for cap, fake for sure. what's for? cost for making a 50v6800uf is really no big diff to 35v2200uf. diff should less than a 20cents in RMB. And for production line, it cost less than a 10sec to make a cap. why bother waste so much time to do the none profitable job? If I were them, I'd make 1F or bigger, why such small.

The one that sells the fake product doesn't really produce anything like that. For example I want to sell fake capacitors. The first thing that i would to is to find a connection on a capacitor factory. I would then buy (really cheap) the ones that doesn't pass the quality checks and should be recycled. Now that I have the capacitors housing I can make my magic and resale it as a good one.

I am not saying that this case of the fake caps is true. Just some thoughts.

For seal and packing those cap is half of the cap product line, without internal stuff, even hard to seal the cap, and you still need solder those cap. what's the profit for those caps? for retail. those 85C 50v6800uf caps, japan name brand about RMB1-1.2 each, no name RMB0.7-0.8, used less than 0.2, any cheap DMM can test it before you buy. remember, most middle size Chinese city has lot component retailer, no one dare/willing to do fake a cap. For whole sale these cap price goes down to lower to 0.20-0.40RMB, then what's the waste to make such thing?
