(Solved) Connector type identity or manufacturer please.
« on: August 18, 2017, 10:02:21 pm »
I have an unusual I/O connector on one of my thermal cameras (SPi RazIR/Guide M3) and need your help in identifying it please.

If I cannot find the plug that mates with this connector I will have to fit a more common type instead. That could be a lot of hassle though.

The connector appears to be 8 connections plus screen and similar to that which i used to see on older mobile phones and PCMCIA cards. On the M8 camera the port provides USB and video connectivity.

Any comments welcomed.

Hmmm I may have found the connector. It looks similar to one used on a radio scanner.....

It seems to be a 4 pin USB connector rather than the more common 5 pin connector. So not an 8 pin connector after all ? a check inside the camera will prove that. I have to look inside to check the pinout anyway.

There are subtle differences that look to be to stop me using a common 4 pin USB plug. There are a couple of side keyways missing at the top of the connector. I can get around that or fit a standard 4 pin mini USB PCB connector.

I remember reading something years ago about digital cameras you could borrow for free from a store, but had to return to get things off them.  The only way they were enforcing this was through a slightly proprietary USB connector, which you could make from a normal one bought from the same store.

Whales,

It looks to be the case here as well.

It appears to be a tweaked version of the Hirose MQ172 series. Datasheet attached.
