No,they'd been in the UK too long,& gone native.
On the odd occasion during a British summer that the sun dares to peep out from behind the clouds,the Poms start tearing their clothes off so they can sunbathe.
You can pick the newly arrived Aussies-- they're the ones shivering inside their furry collared jackets.
The grey weather does something to your eyes,too!
When I came back from the UK in March 1972,the sky was grey,the sea looked nasty,& it was windy,all the way down the West coast of Africa---but the Poms were still sunbathing!!
"That's Africa,right?", "It must be hot & sunny,right?"
When we came into Capetown,it was a beautiful bright blue sunny day,the light was so strong,that the edges of the buildings seemed to have "ringing" on them.
If it had that effect on me,what would it be on someone who'd never seen a sunny South African,or Aussie Autumn day?
