Fravia archive
« on: September 19, 2016, 06:34:53 am »
Long ago in a faraway land there was a great reverser and net white wizard. His nic was Fravia. He ran a MOST fascinating site called searchlores, that included a yearly intake of students of reversing. Graduates entitled to append "+" to their nicknames.
He suddenly caught a fatal variety of cancer (don't they all) and died in 2009.
There are still copies of his site online, but in the original most of the site was hidden, accessible only to 'students'. Of which I was not one, due to lack of time.

Today nostalgically browsing http://search.lores.eu/mirrors.htm  I find:

Quote
Last but not least, a small present to all those impatient & restless souls that want to have a zipped file with (almost) all searchlores...
83 mega, so be warned... mirrored zipped searchlores with images (courtesy of DQ)
http://mirror.search.lores.eu/

Snapshot of searchlores.org
There are two files in here, searchlores.tar.bz2, with the bulk contents of www.searchlores.org, which will stay stable. The other file, update.tar.bz2, contains only those files which are more recent and not yet included in the main snapshot.
searchlores.tar.bz2, last updated 26 April around noon 83 MB
update.tar.bz2, probably updated during the last three hours 423 MB

423 MB? Recent? well, well well...

Doesn't say what YEAR. File date is 20160906. If you have interest in these, grab em while they are there. There's a few filename case significance problems if unpacking to Windows. Fix-em. Then the 'images' folder needs to be popped up one level. And presto... index.htm is your uncle.

What's a reverser?

Software term for the act of taking an executable, and reversing the compilation process, ending up with enough knowledge of the code function to be able to improve or modify it to be more useful.
There are other words for this, but let's avoid using them.

Remember that page from good old times when I was playing with SoftICE and learning x86 assembly as a kid.
Even cracked a dongled program back then, but took me a very long time :).

But now, as Windoze is rubbish, Linux is free and most software protections got more bloated and harder to crack, I somewhat lost interest in it. But was fun back then and I learned how  to program in assembly and how everything works on a low level  :D.
