recapcha stuff? what's going on?
« on: March 17, 2016, 02:52:41 pm »
today I was 'challenged' by a cloudflare captcha (sp?) screen and I never had to deal with that for THIS site before.

is something going on?  is the forum spam really getting to bad that we need this level of proof that posters are not bots?

(or, could it be that I'm coming in from a VPN and that's confusing or annoying CF?)

If it's Cloudflare issuing the challenges and not the forum then yeah, the VPN could be the problem. An awful lot of sites use Cloudflare and all they will see is an awful lot of connections from the VPNs IP pool so suspect bots. TBH actually using a recaptcha is good, a lot of hosts would used to just drop all connections from those IPs for a while. Sometimes that lead to whole towns or even countries been blocked from certain sites due to one or two arsehats, especially in the days of dial up or early broadband.

I get it all the time when I'm on my portable wifi connection. I don't get it when I'm on my home network.

It seems to come out when I'm on an ISP that has a shared IP address with lots of users with viruses on their devices.
