Has anyone heard of protosupplies.com?
« on: August 16, 2018, 11:57:02 pm »
This is the website:

https://protosupplies.com

They sell dirt cheap surface mounted adapter boards among other things.

They are located in Oregon, but they have no phone number to contact them with, only an emailing address.

When I say dirt cheap, I mean like 5 adapter boards for like under a dollar.

At least that is what I think they are selling.

There are adapter boards for most inline surface mounted ICs, and they seem to have dual package capabilities.

When I realized that they had no phone number, I'm hesitant on buying anything from them now.

Just wondering if anyone has done business with them.

Thanks.

According to this web page, Ken (who runs it) was in the Marines for years:

https://protosupplies.com/about-us-2/

If the credit card laws in the USA are the same as in Australia, you can pay by credit card (or Paypal) & if the products don't arrive, organise a charge back.
I also sat between Elvis & Bigfoot on the UFO.

I guess they're not that cheap, a quick search in amazon has bundles that seem to be cheaper in bulk.

They also have deals with assorted boards for about 10 bucks and free shipping.

oh well   :palm:

Hi,
This is Ken from ProtoSupplies.com  I just wanted to address the comments made here.

If you check out the info on the website, you will see that part of my business strategy is to take some of the risk out of buying straight from China like you do when you buy off eBay.

You get the parts quicker and are dealing with a US based company that stands behind what we sell.  A lot of the electronic modules are 100% tested in-house before we sell them.  Some items like DC-DC converters are run through a fair amount of testing and those test results are shared on the product pages so you can make your own decision of whether they will work for you in your application or not.

Hopefully that is worth a bit of a premium over buying straight from China and I think you will find my prices about as low as you will find from a US based company.

The business if fairly new and the website is a work in progress, My phone number has been added to the Contact Us page.  Feel free to call or email me at ken@protosupplies.com if you have any questions or comments.

Best regards,
--- Ken

Yeah, right. Made is China resold at a greater price with stupid expensive shipping.

There are no risks with buying commodity stuff from China. Never had a single problem as long as you set your expectations of product quality accordingly. But simply reselling the same stuff makes no difference on the quality.
