If your camera has HDMI output, then you can connect it directly to the DVI input of your monitor with the appropriate cable and/or adapters.
There seems to be no compelling reason to involve your computer here. In fact, that seems rather like an undesirable complication compared to the straightforward method.

Are you sure you would prefer the camera+monitor to a good magnifying lamp? The latter has no lag or latency issues.

I don't use mine all the time, but when my eyes are tired, it's a relief.

Optical microscope actually is much better for this purpose. Maih reason for this is that on monitor you can't feel volume. There also is some lag which is very annoying when trying to solder.

Which is another reason to NOT route your video through a computer. There is NO LAG if you use a direct connection between the camera and the screen.
The lag is caused by conversion of the native video signal into some compressed format, running it through USB, etc. and back out through the computer.

Only of the monitor accepts the format and framerate the camera puts out - it's not uncommon that they don't.
A TV on the other hand will almost certainly work

I did a quick scan through the camera manual, what its not clear is if the HDMI output will display anything when it's not doing playback.

Meaning that it might not display a live stream of what the camera sees, only when it's playing back images and maybe videos. But I didn't read the manual in detail, so I don't know what is possible.

Also they warn not to connect the USB cable to a PC if the HDMI cable is in use so make sure you read the manual regarding what can be connected to the camera while using the HDMI cable.

The adaptor came today and Miguel unfortunately you were right.

When you plug the HDMI in to the camera
only the playback features work
so didnt help at all.

Lesson learned : RTFM !
