£40? this is cheaper... dont blame me, my father never bought me a crossbow as present when i was a kid.
Hehe. I can just hear your neighbor. "What's that sticking out your ass Inspector Rex, a dart?" :-)
I have my old compound archery bow in the cupboard, but refrained from using that...

Lemme see, It's much more when you consider what's required.
Although maybe after solving your dog problem you could start a rental company and advertise..

I mentioned this in a previous post.

Ultrasonic Dog Silencer.

$US35 - Supplied as a complete kit, takes at most a couple of hours to assemble. . I've got the circuit diagram some where ...

I had it set up in a back room facing the offending neighbour's back yard. Every time I heard a bark, I pressed the remote and the barking stopped - for a short while anyway. I'm sure it would condition the dog after a while but in my case, the neighbours got divorced and left the house.
I don't know who got custody of the dog.

I mentioned this in a previous post...oatleyelectronics.com

Hi Geoff,
Thanks much.
Actually I did see your post (afterwards) and that does look like a better option.
I'd read about it in Silicon Chip magazine and have a few Oatley kits here already.
Maybe if there is some way to focus the ultrasonic drivers to give the "Steve Gibson" effect also  ;D

BTW, our dog is gone, but there is still the cat which uses my other neighbors car roof a a scratching pad
and urinal. You should see the state of her car roof!
So, tonight I've started on my cat-p-off device which will likely be based on a K30 PIR circuit I already have http://www.ozitronics.com/docs/k30.pdf
plus a relay, car window washer bottle (some ammonia), spray nozzle, ultra-bright LED and piezo alarm.
Deciding to use either the K30 or an Olimex P-20 board and Sparkfun PIR module.
Will see how that goes...

I live in Stockton, California, U.S.A. during the down turn in the U.S.A.  I have my earth sci. with an electronics certificate.  That is how I discovered Davy Jones's videos on You Tube.  It taken a little getting used of his personality.  I enjoy his videos a lot and kept me entertained.  I cannot afford everything he recommends, but I have two multimeters like his and Rigol 50 MHz.  That is my only oscilloscope.  I cannot afford a signal generator, so I made one out of bread bread with transistors and two selector switches with a schematic diagram from Delton Horn book, "Test Equipment You Can Build."

We have a backyard neighbor with three large dogs that smells and barks when I am cleaning my mother's yard.  I have blocked all the small holes in the cedar fence where the dog places his nose to take a smell of my mother's backyard.  The dogs are annoying.  Over time, the dogs will get used of me and the barking will be less and the risks of you getting bitten will be less, too.  Check make sure the dog does not tunnel into your yard.  My neighbors dogs have attempted to tunnel into my mother's back yard.  I have in filled the tunnel underpass and place a few surplus bricks along the fence to prevent further dog tunneling.  One night, feral cats have given birth to kittens in my mother's back yard.  The cats are not ours, wild, stray, and feral from the streets.  We do not feed them, they came.  Our neighbor across the street used feed them and stopped recently.  That gotten the three neighbor's dog so angry that one or all of them smashed the cedar fence to splinters and slay the three kittens and placed the kitten carcass in line at the patio of my neighbor's backyard.  I have to replace the broken fence boards.  Neighbors dogs could be a chore and takes adjusting, lots of adjusting.  I hope you do not have a pit bull aggressive dog in your neighbor's yard.  Some parts of the U.S.A. and Stockton have dogs attacked people in the streets and yards.  These are rare incidents.

It might have been an adapted stray dog that learned to be sensitive to all low frequency sounds and barks at it when heard.  I do not know what to suggests.  Will the low frequency ultrasound causes the neighbor's dog to bark more than presently?  It is going to be impossible to tell your neighbor to find another dog as it is their right to have any dog they chose.  It is costly to make a sound insulating and better fence.  I covered one portion of m mother's backyard fence so the dogs will not see or place their snout, nose to the holes in the cedar fence from fallen off wood knots.  The dogs will bark, but less.

I'm trying to stay calm here, but I must say that in my case the only thing I did to
annoy my neighbor's dog was to be alive!

Anything at all would start this little effer up. Turning on my PC, walking to another room, starting
the car, watering my plants, breathing. You name it and this 'thing' did it's worst.
If you've not had that experience then maybe please consider how something so seemingly
innocent could cause people to think about many drastic measures to stop it.

Please try to imagine that, and then say "don't annoy the neighbor's dog".  ;D

well lawsen, since you've mentioned about tunneling. see how i manage (pictures, still waiting for another "budget" for proper fence) with those stray dogs that tried to get into my backyard looking for food (the rocks and woods and tyres!), yet the neighboor's dog is another story. @hissyfet, try to get used to the guy. i managed to keep calmed and not to "annoy" him ;) its obvious that nothing annoyed him around the house.
