Now this is a subject very close to heart for me also.
To the people who state that dogs bark, get use to it, stay inside away from the dog, get friendly with it
I say B***S***T!
It's the neighbor's job to keep their dog quiet, and not yours to confront them.
If they're too stupid to control it they'll invariably be too stupid to stop themselves or their pals attacking you.
Just last week ended months of hell from a small, angry yapping dog next door that didn't stop if
ANY of the neighbour were home, and just got angrier and louder if any of us dared to walk outside.
This started in November, and knowing which Real Estate company had the rental property next door
thought I'd send an email to explain the problem. Next day I recieved a very sympathetic call saying they'd send out a reminder to the dog's owner of the fact that pets weren't allowed in the lease clause.
Nothing changed the next 2 weeks so thought I'd at least let the owner know about the fact I was extremely pissed off and made a PVC remote siren 'cannon' - as I didn't have anything ultrasonic at hand.
This worked for a few minutes each time, and I at least got to know what the dog's name was when the owner called it with 'ShutTheF**kupVincent' :-)
This dog was also 'setting off' others around the area, so it was a real 'bark-fest' and I was then blamed by another neighbor for upsetting HIS dog by setting off my warning device.
Next step was to call the council, by this time (December) they were on holiday, so my waking (and part-sleeping) holidays were spent listening to this 30cm angry yapping 'gremlin'.
So, eventually when our sleepy local council 'ranger' returned from holidays (January) I made an official complaint and was informed they would 'evaluate' the situation and call back.
After a few days no call was returned, but the sound lessened for 4 days which was a major relief,
but then started again as per usual. So, I again called the council asking what had happened.
Got a call from a ranger the next day saying that the owner had hired a citronella collar and everthing was just fine now. I suggested to the ranger that the dog had used up the citronella contents in a few days of continual barking so it was prety much useless. He said I should just 'give it a chance'...
Another month and still the same, until 2 weeks ago when I pointed out the problem again to the Real Estate company. This time it worked! Absolute silence (and no dog).
To sum up, all I'd like to say is that some people are real idiots (maybe dumber than the dogs) and councils aren't much better. Probably the best thing to do is get the most powerful ultrasonic device you can find, install speakers in multiple PVC 'cannons' and aim it at the damn dog.
Maybe something from here...
