I could use some advice on certifications
« on: May 28, 2017, 04:34:13 am »
Basically, I want to get into electronics but to start off for now, I'm looking into getting some sort of entry-level repair technician job and I want to know what certs I should go for? Quite a few companies ask for a Comptia A+ and it's a good fit for those types of positions so I'll probably get it above anything else, but are there any others worth going after?

The iFixit MasterTech and Microsoft Registered Refurbisher program both looked like good options, then there's the ETA CST and CETa which seems interesting but I can't find very many people talking about them so it's harder to get an idea if they're worth it or not.
(Which by the way, I'm totally not ready for CETa, I took their practice test and was struggling with at least half of it, I need to brush up the formulas used.)

Unless a specific employer asks for a specific certification, certs are completely worthless in the electronics repair industry. To be honest, electronics is conflated with IT enough as it is. Certs only make it worse.
It's perfectly acceptable to not know something in the short term. To continue to not know over the long term is just laziness.
