Title: Ideas for these IC's
Post by: PStevenson on October 10, 2011, 03:43:40 pm

over the last year I spent a bit of time collecting up samples of various parts which I sorted into this cool wooden draw box thing anyway I have attached 2 pictures of my "wooden box plan" listing the part numbers

now to the point of this post - have any of you got any cool little circuit ideas that I could use these with (obviously not all of them in one thing) I have googled alot of them already but that doesn't yield anything that interesting outside of whats in datasheets so I thought I would throw it out to you guys.

err, so you collected samples with no real use for them ? hm well you see it normally works the other way around, what would you like to do and can any of these parts be used ?

I collected samples that looked like they would have interesting uses - they haven't ever asked me what I wanted them for, I asked and they sent them. I even had a conversation with some guy from one of the places - it might have been TI - not sure though, he was cool though, I told him I was a hobbyist and he sent me a load of other IC's

they have their heads screwed on, they know that this practise encourages brand loyalty even with hobbyists - I could get a job in some big company and work their parts into a design and gain them a load of business.

If possible:

Do projects that can be useful at your home, depending on your needs. Even do they already exist on the market.

In my case I have like three or four projects that are useful for me.

David.

well yes, I wanted specific ideas really, links to schematics and things plus if my house has anymore "projects" of mine attached to it the collective EMF will boil my head

and what were these uses ?

all built now I have spares.
I'm sorry, are you going to suggest anything or just ask sarcy questions?

Try plugging some of the part numbers into Google and you'll get some examples.

If you don't know what you want to do with them, put them back on the shelf and wait until you have an application for them.
I could suggest a mic preamp or compressor with some of those parts but then you may not have any microphones or any use for such things.

aye yeah, I did make a channel strip with some of them. I do a lot of audio work.
normally I just store things till I need them but I've just been a bit bored and uninspired recently so I was hoping someone had some ideas, google doesn't turn anything up besides the stuff I've already done

If you have multiple monitors (speakers) then you could do a monitor selector system with K system calibration. I've found this to be very handy for mixes. A simple 2-in 4-out works well.

If you are interested in Audio, then there are some interesting things you can do with the AD8307.

It conversts the  Ac volts to DC level that is the log of the amplitude with a 90dB range.  Much better then measuring audio levels with a linear meter that needs ranges changed. In other words it measures the audio amplitude in dB rather then volts.

Here are some suggestions:

well not knowing what those chips are mostly off the top of my head or their specific strengths and not knowing what your interests are i was trying to help you reason your own answer. As i said you'll want to do projects that are on interest to you not me. you have a chip marked as a preamp - so go build a preamp of some sort with it ?

Let me make some utterly useless suggestions:

1. Take a 4017, some LED's, an opamp of your choice, an  electret mic capsule and build a walking LED light that walks a step each time it hears a loud noise.

2. Build a power amp using the TDA2030, add to that an oscillator of some sort (I'm thinking 200-1000Hz sine). Nice loud siren.

3. Combine the two and you get a circuit that shouts back at you each time you shout at it. If you add the ADG508 to switch the frequency setting passive parts in your oscillator you could get a circuit that shouts back at you in increasing pitch.
Might be good for stress relief...or might make you more stressed, what with constantly being shouted at by your work.

4. Get a photodiode/LDR, build a light sensitive oscillator, add the TDA2030 amp I mentioned earlier and hide the whole thing in your other halfs wardrobe. You'll likely get a smack for that ;).

4a. Same thing works for toilet seat.

The possibilities are endless...

well it came across as sarcastic, I tend to get criticism alot on forums as everyone does, I'd much rather be friends with the few people who share my interests than just go on forums to throw fire so I just call people on it, in this case you were trying to help so I'm sorry for the accusation but yeah the reason I was asking for suggestions is because I want to build things that haven't immediately interested me or possibly haven't even thought about like David77 suggested a toilet seat alarm which I am going to make, I love practical jokes - I drive people to distraction with them so thanks David77 for that idea.

The first thing you should do is dropping that annoying habit of collecting stuff you don't need.

The second thing you should to is dropping that attitude that the whole world has to support your habit and behavior.

I like collecting things I don't need.

I was unaware that asking for ideas for electronic projects on an electronics forum was in some way taxing to the world.

What would happen if any of the ideas we give to you, you don't like them ?

Even if they are in your interest area.

I'm just building stuff up on breadboards to kill time and learn new things
I've got a shitty illness and I can't go out or do much - so lots of free time.

@ All:
I really don't see what all the fuss is about. All he was asking for were some ideas, if you don't like that don't read & don't reply.

@BAW:
Why so grumpy? If someone likes to collect stuff what skin is it off your nose?
Personally I find your post quite patronising and rude, are you only bored at work or just generally bored to feel the need
to leave comments like these?

I have a tendency to agree but lets no turn this into a personality war please

Certainly not my intention either. I'm just asking...  8)

thanks for backing me up, I wasn't sure what I had done to deserve what BAW said.
some of the things I collect that I don't end up using I occasionally make into pay it forward kits for people just starting out in electronics.
