Kinda funny and kinda cool video RESISTORS INDIA
« on: October 10, 2013, 11:06:59 pm »
This Video shows how a factory in Bangalore india make resistors almost completely by hand. It does seam a archaic way to work in our modern environment.  However I'd say there are very few if any faulty parts. It does start a little odd, but gets better :)

The dipping of the legs in molten solder seams a risky practice  ;D

When I see stands for resistor and other passives companies at trade shows I feel kinda sorry for them - how excited can you get about a resistor...?

Had a Wurth rep in today - how excited can you get about inductors and ferrite beads? They now do a line of small LEDs. A side firing 0805 package was about as exciting as it got.

Surprisingly they helped fund a guy to finish off his book on LTspice and now sell it

Wurth makes high-current SMT power inductors with values and FR I can't find elsewhere... That's useful, if not exciting.

I felt like a video from 1830s England. My friend from ABB said something like "we can make everything 10 times better and 10 times faster and 10 times cheaper but we cannot sell it to people who want "hand made by virgins" sticker on their stuff".

If it allows you to feed your children it may be very exciting.

Ensuring good education for my kid(s) is quite important.
Still, i found the paperwork for school enrollment not exciting at all, even though it is for the benefit of my children.
Is something wrong with me?  :scared:

You'd be amazed at how exciting resistors can be. There is all kinds of specialty resistors. Zero indactance , thin film thick film , fusables, low noise, low tempco , overload resistors, flashover resistors , bifilar wound resistors

Yes, I will shameless admit I can be excited by resistors from time to time.

Let's not forget light bulbs. They were (and perhaps still are) also used as resistors...  ;)

All axial resistors are lead free, but gods bless you if you buy one of our radial resistors!  :wtf: :D

Low tempco wirewound resistors featuring an Ayrton-Perry winding. How can you not find that exciting? :D

I built a DAC when I was 13 from resistors. It sounded like a radio that was off station. I bought some 1% resistors and rebuilt it and it worked. I got excited about those resistors.

Me as well, using the parallel port of my PC. Worked well enough so later I bought my first CDROM drive ( 2x with a caddy and it came with a SB16 ISA card as well) which had a big feature of recording, and a built in amplifier.

Yep, me too. The good old Covox Speech Thing. Worked wonders until I got enough money for a real sound card.

C'mon, that sounds so arrogant, especially you're now a Canadian I presumed and also after reading your very fine post -> Here

I bet you just can not afford to even think of these words above, if somehow you're still stuck there as a piss poor ruskii in a small town at nowhere doing a low wages and low tech manual job like those Indian ladies.

I can always be "excited" by resistors after looking at this

I didn't see a single pair of safety glasses in that entire video.
