A damaged product story with a happy ending  :)

I have recently purchased a CSI474A desoldering gun (aka Aoyue 474A+) from Circuit Specialists Europe Ltd (www.circuitspecialists.eu).

The price was right and the service excellent, with next day delievery.

When I unpacked the desoldering gun and its associated main unit I found that some cable clips had been broken on the gun leads and I was also a little concerned that the solder collection tube was not fitting correctly.

After an email exchange (inc pictures) with Brett at Circuit Specialists, I am pleased to report that he is sending me a new gun and gave me the old one for spares  :)  The original gun appears to have been bumped in transit, breaking the clips and misaligning the heater assembly.

I wanted to share this story with the Forum as Circuit Specialists Europe Ltd have shown themselves to be both efficient and most honourable in dealing with the customer (me). They get a Gold star for customer service from me  :)

I will do a short review (cw internal pictures) of the 494A desoldering station when time permits, but first impressions are good. It's quiet and appears to be solid enough for non industrial tasks. Pump vacuum appears to be excellent. Aoyue branded parts are easily available which is very important for longevity of support. The main unit case is the same size as my Aoyue 852 so they can 'stack' vertically.
My unit was purchased via ebay here:

I've bought quite a few things from 'Circuit Specialists Europe' too, and also found them to be very helpful when things don't go
quite to plan, not that it happens very often mind.

No worries,

The brand new desoldering gun arrived this week, just as promised. All is now well with my desoldering station. Review to follow shortly.

How's the review coming along? Would love to see what these ones look like inside, and such.

Hiya,,

The review slipped a little as I bought a faulty Uni-Trend UTD1025C handheld DSO and that grabbed my full attention  ;D

I'll take the covers off etc shortly and you can see what you get for the money. I have used it in anger several times and it has worked very well, with no blockages, even when removing a huge blob of solder on a screening can  :)

I like the unit a lot and so it is in my front line of desoldering equipment. For more miniature and precise work I still use a PACE desoldering station as that has a much finer tip and better handpiece for such work. The guns are fine for average through hole work though.

More when I get a moment.
