Leonard Nimoy Has Died
« on: February 27, 2015, 06:23:05 pm »
The above sad news has just been announced on the news websites. RIP Sir.

I had a strange thought, maybe not so strange in this crowd. I started watching Star Trek in 1966, when it started, with my father. He was not interested too much after the first few episodes but I continued to watch, and many times over since. Since I moved to Chile in 2010, I introduced my Chilean girlfriend and we have watched the old and new generation. I have been waiting to show her the movies and it looks like tonight is the appropriate time.

The strange thought? I knew my father as long as I have have known Spock, almost to the month. My father died in January 2009 and "Spock" February 2015.

Very sad to hear this news. I grew up on Star Trek. I know Mr Nimoy went on to do other great work but, for me, he will always be Mr Spock....Science officer, Starship Enterprise. He could even be what inspired me to take up science at school ?

The BBC had a nice entry on their web page:

He lived and prospered (not long enough).

James Doohan & De Forest Kelley have already gone before. They all helped to fire our imaginations in the 60's.

Much of the technology we now enjoy seems to be rooted in the imagination of the creators of the Star Trek universe.

I propose a toast to Leonard Nimoy, may his legacy live on!

and now it's for real... :'(

I wanted the Star Trek III version with the intro, but this one was in higher quality.  The STIII version shows the casket get pulled into the Genesis gravity field and has Spock narrating the intro "Space... The final frontier"

If anyone wants to compare, here it is:

The topic is Leonard Nimoy and his untimely death isn't it?  Why drag Russia into this ? OT  ::)

Those who have lived in Russia, as I have, will know that it is a very complicated environment with weekly killings, often Mafia related. Restaurants where you wear body armour in case of Mafia hits etc. While I was there a Brit was set on fire in his apartment for not paying the required protection money while making a film.

Lets leave politics to another thread eh ?

Untimely death??? get a grip on yourself.

He was 83 and unwell. He had a good innings. Time to say good bye.. we all got to go down that path.
