Hello, I'm Sven, 37 years old and living in Belgium.
I work as an inline measurement technician in the Audi factory in Brussels.
Back in the days I studied some basic electronics, last year I started with arduino and I notice that I lost much knowledge over time.
Last week, a Rigol 1054z got delivered at my door.

I'm following EEVblog on youtube since last year and now it's time to join this forum.

hi all,
new member from Italy here.
I've come to know the forum from the yt channel, I don't know much of electronic, but I'm trying to study it a bit (also with the help of the eevblog videos).
I may have ultra noob questions, so see you in the beginners zone.

Ciao,
Danilo

Hello everyone!

I've been a lurker for a month or so and I've decided to finally register. I am a newbie when it comes to the electronics so I will probably ask a lot of stupid questions - forgive me for that! ;)

Cheers!
I am a fan of minority languages and their history. Also, baseball is the best! ;)

Hello, World!  I've always had an interest in electronics since as far back as I can remember.  Growing up I loved taking things apart to see how they worked.  I also enjoyed playing with the electronics learning labs, and had several of them.

In high school I had a summer job working for Dranetz.  I got paid to make their equipment and software fail by any reasonable means necessary.  For example I could ignore everything in the operations manual and try to do things it wasn't supposed to do, but I couldn't whack it with a sledge hammer.  It was a really fun job.  What kid in high school wouldn't love getting paid to break things?

Imagine my excitement hearing Dave talk about my old company in one of his videos.  For a while I'd been wondering if he ever did a video on any af their equipment, and I found out rather quickly when I decided to start watching every video in order.

Unfortunately I haven't really done anything at all with electronics in many years.  I just got the itch to get back into it recently and have been spending money faster than I can make it trying to get a somewhat respectable lab setup.  Timing of the latest Radio Shack bankruptcy was perfect, as I was able to actually break their register because it couldn't handle the amount of items I was purchasing at 60%-95% off.  In a week I bought over 800 items just from them, plus many many more from eBay and Amazon including my very first oscilliscope, a Tektronix 463 (with serial number just over 21,000, which I believe makes it ane of the better ones.)

Hopefully my introduction didn't run on too long.  Big fan of just about every one of the videos I've watched so far. Looking forward to participating on the forum too!

Hi All,

New guy here, catshot, don't ask, well you can but let me get past the intro. I'm retired now for 13 years, much harder than working, trust me. OK, I live with my wife of almost 50 years on top of Sand Mountain, Trenton Ga, and looking for someone to do high power LED comms with, but that's another story.

I do buy and sell government surplus electronics as a secondary hobby, lots of fun. Anyway, glad to be here and if I can answer any questions, please let me know.

I'm sort of a 'cad' (clown) so don't be alarmed from time to time. OK, nuff of that, I'll go read a bit and see what happens.

In the mean time, what are some thoughts if a spec anal does NOT have a tracking generator but I do have a sig gen for doing antenna 'stuff'?

Hello all!

Name here is Charles and I've been involved with hobby electronics since at least 1984. I've been a licensed amateur radio operator since 2002, and I have a lot of fun repairing and rebuilding vintage amateur radios, and re-purposing retired two way land mobile equipment.  Many years ago I worked for a two way radio shop, and learned a lot about radio install and repair. I have an associate of applied science degree in electronics, and a bachelor of science in information technology.

I've watched a lot of Dave's videos, and I have my own YouTube channel, where I repair test equipment, radios, vintage computers, and many more items. Please have a look, and subscribe, since I am going to try to release 1-2 videos per week.

Hello !

I'm Cedric from Belgium. I'm a 42 years old electronics engineer that never actually worked in the electronics field :)

Exactly like Gary "The Provert" just above, Dave has rekindled my love of electronics, and I too have started to build myself a new lab.

Thanks Dave for all you do and hoping to maybe make new friend here

Well, introductions are due. I have the nagging suspicion that I did this before, but left no traces.

E/E engineer with 30+ years of experience. Specializing in Test, Measurement and Instrumentation, Aerospace and Defence electronics, EMC/EMI, SRMQ, Power Electronics and Electromechanics.
Total engineering person, stopped even trying to seperate my work from my personal life (my what?).
Own lab, own professional library with about 500+ titles (print) and so on..

Having done test and evaluation, field support and shop repair, circuit design, systems engineering and anything in between. Highlights? Can't tell - I want to spare my city of residence! But a power unit on the ISS, SOFIA, subsystems of EF200, A400M, 787, UGVs/remote manipulators and some big green tracked stuff should suffice. Mixed signal, DC to GHz, microvolt to Megawatt.

Currently in deep **** up to my eyebrows while reworking ADS-B stuff once designed by a department which can only be described satirically. The devices they designed remind me of the equestrian/veterinary textbooks where all illnesses/flaws are shown on one horse! Well, way to go. If it was easy, they would have given it to a nice guy. Back into RF electronics right after MW-size DC keeps one awake and learning.

Avid collector of rare and special tools and instruments (if it is from Belzer, iI must have it!!), total adaptor hamster. Unfortunately, those conspirators at the involved companies know this, and they ALWAYS offer new and different connector series when I just think that I might have them covered. Dang.

Hailing from Germany, please forgive my lapse-backs into noun capitalization.
That's it - for now. Greets from the shrew(d) engineer.

Hello everyone, i just noticed this thread and thought i would say hi. My username here is Badvoc and i am new to the forum.

I am a electronics hobbyist based in the UK who likes to pass the time tinkering with circuits, project kits and test equipment. And also creating videos of my experiences with electronics which i post on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs7g7f_MU5VSGRxHMQoQ5Xw) to share with others.

Hope to meet new friends here and learn more about electronics with like minded people.

Hi guys,

I have been away for two years from the forum, might just as well write under "introduce yourself".

Naw, not really, but I'll try to hang around on a more regular basis now.

Hi, this is Oliver from Germany.
I've just registered here and as a patron, after having watched about 200 eevblog videos on YT.
EE has been my hobby since I was ten or so and I may have designed and built quite a few proper products (mainly in the audio range, mainly analogue) over the years. I've played around with µCs, of course, but haven't finished any serious EE project  for quite a while.

Please overlook the sporadical upper case, that's a German habit (including my browser's autocorrection).
Looking forward to prolific discussions,

Oliver.

Hello Folks,

Been following EEV blog on youtube for a long time now.... but here is the funny thing. I dont know much about electronics. Did some basic soldering in school. Looked into Ohm law and such.

So I am here to learn and share. My title is "3D and Medical Product Specialist" at Roland DG. So I know milling machines, engravers, dental milling machines (one is a CNC grinder but that is a minor detail) and 3D Printers very well... but not the electronics and I am really curious.

I playes my first "flight simulator" on my C64 and have never stopped playing flight sims (Mostly DCS).

Always dreamt of building a simpit, but never got to it. So i think I will start small and see where it goes. First project a pair of rudder pedals, since the mechanics are pretty simple. For the electronics, I just bought some Leo Bodnar components.

Greetings all!

I am Figgie, from the twin cities, MN. I learned soldering in the military (along with proper wire-stripping for 22759 wires) but I was doing it since I was younger thanks to my dad that happened to work on fixing photocopy machines (anyone remember those?), typewriters (specifically IBM Selectric) and any other electronics that came his way (arcades, calculators, the first pc, VHS/Betas).

By day time I am an IT consultant, only electronics I deal with are working servers or telling people to replace dead servers. :)

I have used the big old wire soldering irons (don't even remember the names), butane soldering pens, to Soldering stations.

Current soldering stations are as follow

Weller WX2021 station (with WXMP and Micro-Tweezer that are broken), Purchased this station nearly 4 years ago. My first "real" soldering station, served me well for soldering XLR connectors to canare starquad cable. Selling this one.

JBC DMSE station with T245 and D560 desoldering
JBC SF-110VA

next to bat... JBC JTSE-1A and fume extractor.

Hey there I'm Gaz

Total n00b when it comes to electronics but really enjoys Dave's channel. Enjoy building PC's and taking things apart to see how they work. Been watching EEVBLOG for around a year I would say. Won the recent audience survey for the hvp70 diff probe  :o

It's good to be here and I'll try to be an active member though as I said I have little in the way of real electronics knowledge.

I've been tinkering with electronic stuff since I was 12, or even before.  I took electrical engineering for a while but switched to computer science.
I've been working as a pseudo engineer (no degree) for 40+ years.  I started a company to make a video animation controller I designed at work in 1986.  Eventually a company came out with a much better idea, so I shut that down.  Since then, I've been making CNC motion control gear and nuclear instrumentation electronics.  In 2007 I bought a used pick & place machine (Philips CSM84) a 5 x 7 foot, 1700 Lb monster.  I also built a laser photoplotter to make PC board master artwork.  I now use it mostly to etch solder stencils.

I added a ramp and soak thermocouple controller to a GE toaster oven to reflow boards with parts on both sides.

I've built over 1000 boards with this setup.

Hello. My name is William. I am a mechanical engineer by education, but have always loved control systems. I'm picking up electronics as a hobby and going through all the circuits classes I took way back when. I'm interested in automation and mechatronics. I have really enjoyed browsing this forum and watching Dave's videos. I am in the process of building a starter lab to start tinkering around in.

Noobie here (actually oldie), thought I'd introduce myself somewhere, and first did so on a thread about wirewrap tools. Found this one, figured I'd add some of that info here.

My background (I wouldn't call myself an engineer, more a hobbyist):

Did a 20 year stint in the Air Force, starting out in "Radar" (search and weather) Shop on C141s. Back then the field was officially called "Radar" or "Nav Aids" for short, and included maintenance of systems like ILS, TACAN, VOR, etc. The field was eventually merged into communications, after which we were called COMM/NAV.

Anyway, retired from the military in '92, and my first real job after that was for a company called Advanced Systems Development, Inc. (ASDI), as what they called a Systems Integration Tech/Field Service Engineer (read: grunt on digital/rf) on their AMES II platform (Advanced Multiple Environment Simulator), an EWS receiver testing platform. Great experience, mostly integration on VME backplanes, and learned far more than I ever did in the Air Force.

Now I just tinker around with computers, my current project involving PWM control.

Just thought I'd give a quick G'day to everyone,
Stumbled over here from Dave's Youtube blog which I find rather entertaining. And the fact he reminds me a bit of a bloke I used to work with when I was an apprentice.
I did my trainee-ship years ago at Alcatel. Sadly, it all came to an abrupt end when Onetel sunk, so changed course and became a sales rep for hardware instead. Now electronics is back being a hobby as it was when I was 10 (although I don't get as much time to do it, but working at it). In between the workshop shed re-organising, building a recording/jamming studio, farm stuff, wood chopping - never ends.
I generally like working on audio gear (got a heap of stuff I'm fixing as I get the time), but still like making amps, guitar effects. I also work on my guitars, modifying and building a few when time permits. I've still got stuff running I built when I 15 (that was 30 years ago)!
Although the last few projects I built a 50's style jukebox with wifi streaming and touch screen taht literally shakes the house, an upright multi arcade machine. Latest project is a poker machine for the missus (not sure if I'll get it done in time though).
I actually popped over to the forum for some reviews on test gear and workshop layouts as I'm currently moving what I had in the shed to the office inside. Winters a bitch down here - summers too hot, winters bloody freezing in the shed. Try soldering with icicles hanging off fingers! I figured, move it inside and I might even do some stuff at night instead of TV.
But, just getting myself up and running again. Investing in some new gear and tools (finally bought a cheap CRO  :-+) which were always handy but super cheap now there's an Ebay!
Look forward to hanging around and getting some more ideas
Cheers
Pete
Why buy it when you can build it?

Hi, Noob to the forum, you might see that this is post #1 (in any forum ever).
I'm an Avionics Technician in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. I have 17 years time up with most of my operational time being associated with the mighty C-130, 6 years flight-line and four years teaching C-130 avionics systems.
Currently posted to the Computer Systems Bay which is a back-shop dealing with all things airborne-computery, which makes use of my Bsc (Comp Sci).
Having said all that, being an Avionics Tech means I know a lot about a very narrow field, still plenty to learn.

Greetings All,

My name is Chris. I have read the forum and watched the channel for a couple years but have never had much time to register and actually chat. I have recently finished my military career and finally have some free time to tinker again.  I have a Mechatronics certificate with Siemens certification and I am close to finishing my BS degree in EE with a concentration in Electronics.

My primary interests are DC power and the creation and transfer of it. I build 18650 power banks for use in solar systems and other off-grid applications. I enjoy repairing power inverters and exploring other SMPS designs and ideas. I also used to repair smartphones and other handheld devices but have grown tired of it and wanted a change of pace. I have recently purchased a handful of super-caps and I am sure I'll have some questions for the pros here as my project goes on.

I get crabby from time to time but I am a nice guy with a huge heart. Ive been blown up ( in combat) a few times and my brain doesn't always fire on all its cylinders. I, like most veterans, are accustomed to giving. I like to find and share good deals for hobby/ pro stuff to help support the EE community. If I can buy it USED, I will, rather than buying it new from stores. I like to keep the money within the community.

Current projects:

Bobble-head Dave

24V super-cap power bank

troubleshooting a bad Magnum Energy MS 4448 main board

Thanks all,

Chris
