is it worth waiting for the new AMD Ryzen CPUs?
« on: July 12, 2020, 02:10:37 pm »
so ... I need a new workingstation. And I wonder if it's worth waiting for the new Ryzen.
AMD Ryzen CPUs seem to be largely better than Intel. Even better than Xeon.

But I am not sure.

I need a new working station for high computing intense CAD/CAM.

I am faced with the same decision and concluded that the current Ryzen 2 CPUs which are the 3rd generation, are fine.  There is no reason to get the 1st or 2nd generation Ryzen parts.

Depending on your workload, I would wait a few days for the new Threadripper Pro. Otherwise, no real worth in waiting.

Depends if you need it urgently. If you can wait with no serious downsides to you till the end of this year, then wait for Zen 3 release. Otherwise buy now since current CPUs are pretty good too.

Does your CAD/CAM supports whatever you are expecting from Ryzen?

Out of curiosity, what is it (CAD/CAM)?

I can wait. The task will be assigned for the end of september. We have time.

Good question. Yesterday I wrote a couple of emails to the PTC's team.

PTC Creo (ex Pro/E) products.
