PCB art, no really, art
« on: May 25, 2017, 10:35:39 am »
I know it is an art, in the sense of craft, to do nicely layouted PCBs, but this is really art, combining the different layers in a very creative way:

And then there's this guy: https://www.google.com/search?q=ciat+lonbarde+pc+board&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiC86eFh4zUAhWl0FQKHUNRArIQ_AUIDCgD&biw=1826&bih=919

Crazy. And look at the schematic.pdf :-DD But it looks like it is real and does indeed work. This is the best PCB art, as with the anime drawing: it looks good, but parts of the drawing are actual parts of the circuit to make it functional.

Is that board from a book about creating a DIY CPU using HDL, written by some Japanese guy?

Just wow...

They're all great but I *love* the anime board, I wonder if there are PCB files anywhere that could be sent off to a board house?

Yes, originally as illustrated comic books (doujinshi like), then formally published as book by kokuritsu gijutsu press. The book's name is cpu jisaku nyumonn, can be purchased from Amazon JP. The board could be obtained from Marutsu, but discontinued now.
I actually have that book in Chinese.

Should I want to actually try the book I would try to retarget it to Intel EP4CE6 FPGA. I have a dev kit for it, and maybe if the CPU outgrew the peripherals available on the FPGA I would build a similar board using some 208-pin Cyclone IV parts.

That board with the girl on it is unmistakably Japanese. I'm not sure if this is the book that goes with it.

I do wonder whats the reaction of the chinese PCB fab when you submit them gerbers for boards like the ones original post. Even giving them normal circuit board gerber files sometimes results in some of the most confusing of conversations as soon as you do something slightly out of the ordinary on your PCB.

I think the responses would be something along the lines of "Why is your pcb girl picture" "Your gerbers are photo"  "i have problem opening your files" etc
