The user has been banned. If you get anything like this please PM me. I was only able to deal with this because this topic was reported to me so tat i could take action. I or Dave (we are the only two main moderators) do not read the entire forum.

It isn't entirely obvious *where* to report PM spam if you don't know the nyms of any of our mod. team.   Perhaps a 'Report to Moderator' link could be added to our inbox message views?

Also the Amazon link in the O.P.s post needs to be deactivated to prevent the spammer gaining any benefit!

The PM system is fairly secure from Mods and Admins peering over your shoulder so there is no reporting feature on SMF for PM's. You need to PM the mods with the users details and a copy of the message.

The only way to reduce this happening is ban newbies with less than X posts from being able to send PM's and add Signatures these are standard permissions that can be changed by Dave if he thinks it a good idea.

This sort of mod can be added as a forum contact point http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=377

@Simon
We currently have a Moderation Reports thread in the Supporters Lounge but the sticky one for everyone else located in the General Chat Board is locked for some silly reason, perhaps this should be opened up again so that the rest of the community has somewhere to notify of these events.

the general chat one got locked because it became the playground of those wanting to continue arguments about moderation action. I'll reopen it now that the offenders are banned.

Maybe it would be simpler to just have a single user name like 'Admins' or 'Moderators' that all the mod. team can read PMs to, and provide instructions on using it to forward items of concern to the mod. team.

IMHO if you want to use a public area forum thread, you should start a new clean one for 'SPAM reports' as there is no need to encourage anyone to wade through the garbage in the old Moderation Reports thread, nor to give it increased prominence  on  search engines.  Also I suggest unpinning the old locked thread.  Is there any section you could put the new one it in that is *ONLY* available to logged in users without the post count or financial support criteria of the Supporters Lounge?

PRIVATE MESSAGE is fundamentally private within the core of SMF from everyone except the poster and receiver. Copy a message and write the mod/admin is the correct way to do it. This is far from an epidemic PM spam thing and a simple permission based fix exists if it becomes so.

Looks like it's spreading, I got one too.
From a user mysteriously named QWER.  ???

It's the exact same message, except from another account.
@Simon I just send you a PM, but I forgot to add the subject :palm:, sorry for that.

That Vacuum they advertise looks suspiciously similar to some other brands ;) , but if it sucks only half as much as they advertise, it could be a real treat especial. Maybe we should send one to AvE for some destructive maintenance ;D.
I'd think of something clever to say, but I got nothing, so I just won't.

I thought you needed a certain amount of posts on the forums before you could send PMs. If it's possible to do that I don't think it would be an unreasonable restriction for new genuine users to combat spam like this.
