Pre exploded surge protector.

This must be a new venture for the Chinese, instead of electronics which blow up on you they now save you the trouble and supply them pre-exploded. :-DD

Big clive has found one at least.

Any theories on how this could have happened?

I'm guessing the cardboard piece wasn't properly placed in a previous one, ended up stuck to the machine and eventually caught fire,

Pre exploded burnt surge protector.
I have never seen anything like this, must be be a very rare event. If visibly damaged products like this get to consumers, you can only guess what else goes though quality inspection unnoticed.

I might agree that his knowledge in electronics is pretty basic but no way would call him idiot. Also I never found any of his videos being fake.

If by pretty basic, you mean desinging lighting control boards from scratch, repairing moving heads, and thoroughly explaining every device he tears apart, sure.
[sarcasm]I suppose by that logic dave is mediocre then?[/sarcasm]

If you mean those: http://www.bigclive.com/guides.htm yes it's pretty basic. I won't say my judgement about Dave to not start shit throwing but in some video he said that does not consider himself being some kind of electronics guru.

Hmmmm.  Give us a link to YOUR videos so we can compare.
How exactly did he "fake" the heat-sealed bubble pack?
IMHO, you attack says much more about YOU than it does about Bigclive.

There are a few of them, but they are obviously humorous, granted it's dry humor, so those with "different" brains might not be able to pick up on that and think it's genuine. The same type of person probably thinks electroboom is serious.

I insist on what I've said. I know him only through this video and I really don't care, was the first and last I've seen from him. If someone presents himself on the web like this, he must assume someone might call him a retard. Sorry for you fanboys of stupid fun which is not funny.

PS: Electroboom actually is funny. And yes, my brain is not tuned to that kind of "fun" above.

It was just a stupid joke from him, LOL.
under the video:

And for those who actually read down to this level... The actual result of hooking a (really crappy) 100W LED directly across 240V was so boringly controlled that I had to beef it up a bit for a second take with hidden resistors underneath for some sparks and pops. See if you can spot them as I completely lose control of the LED at least twice during the video.
No good quality LEDs were harmed in the making of this video. Mainly because I can't get any.

Ignorance it the reason why sometimes I feel the urge to leave this planet.

That joke video notwithstanding BigClive's soldering technique without using any third hands or clamps is pretty amazing to watch. I keep finding myself trying to hold something and feed solder with one hand like he does. The results are usually disastrous.

I swear it's like the guy has two thumbs on his left hand. :-+ :-+

So basic that he is the one that give the name to the joule thief.
He may have some dry english humour, that maybe some of the US people are not able to cope with, but he is clearly not incompetent. I'm sure he knows more than most people here. It's not because it love to tear down chinese "crappy" things that he know nothing, on the contrary, he tends to explain usefull things (and I think he have soldered more thing than Dave in their own channel :p)
When you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective.

So how the ability to give some catchy name to the very basic circuit designed by other people tells something about person's electronics skill?

but he is clearly not incompetent
Nobody says he is incompetent. I don't find him telling ridiculous BS about something he doesn't know. On the other side, what he explains is pretty basic either.

OMG he clearly knows nothing and is incompetent since I lack the ability to detect any humor whatsoever! What a retard. Brb, voting for trump.

One strange thing is that Clive had reviewed/teardowned a few thing just a few weeks/month before dave received the same thing, that's funny.
The 3 I have in mind are theses:

Maybe YouTube should add Closed Captioning for the Humor Impaired.
