We don't. Also, medieval monks didn't make typos. When they weren't corrupting texts by mistranslating them, they routinely obliterated priceless manuscripts from Antiquity, covering them with their pointless memetic religious blather. For instance the story of the Archimedes Palimpsest.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes_PalimpsestArchimedes lived c.287 – c.212 BC. His work The Method of Mechanical Theorems used mathematics close to modern Calculus. It was overwritten by 13th century Christian monks, short of writing materials. The story of how most of that work was recovered is fascinating. And how close it came over and over to being lost completely, is enough to make you cry.
How much further advanced would we be today, if ancient scientific works like that were not lost in their time?
