Reflash a PICKit3 with a PICKit2?
« on: March 23, 2019, 10:19:00 pm »
Hi,
MPLABX 5.15 bricked my PICKit3 with its firmware update and I've tried to get it into Bootloader mode but it does not work. So, can I re-flash my PICKit3 with my older PICKit2 and if so, how and where should I connect it on the PCB of the 3?

//Kind regards

Yes. I found a tutorial outlining how to do this using another PK3, but since I flashed my DIY PK3 with a PK2 I know it works basically similar. Look at https://blog.mbedded.ninja/programming/microcontrollers/pic-and-dspic-family/how-to-unbrick-a-pickit-3/.
But you can also try to use the standalone MPLab programmer to connect to the PK3 and see whether it can rescue it (it is better in that regard than MPLabX in that regard).

Thank you kindly.
I will try this as soon as I get back from work today.

You might try the PICkit 3 Programmer App and Scripting Tool v3.10 from the Microchp archive to burn the firmware.
