Scotland's Highlands and islands on Lonely Planet's 'Best in Travel' list

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-45940644

The Scottish Highlands and islands have been named one of the top regions in the world for travellers in 2019.
Lonely Planet has revealed that the region has been listed among its top 10 "Best in Travel" destinations.
Featuring fifth on the list, the guide describes the Highlands and islands as "one of the wildest, least inhabited and most scenic parts of Europe".
It gives special mention to the North Coast 500 driving route, the North East 250 and the Snow Roads.

In June 2017 I was driving my BMW GS1200 to visit the  Island of Man TT Trophy.

I remember clearly when I turned left to get into Liverpool for catching the ferry. In my mind there was only one thing: "If I go straigt I will see Scotland...".

It is still on my TO DO list, and yes the requirement MUST BE only on a nice motorcycle.

My holiday, last year:

Yes, it was wet. This year we went back, in the car.

Ouch, sorry to hear that  :'(

The red bike is my wife's, with about 70,000 miles on it. Probably the highest mileage 696 in the country.

Some year ago or so they did a big genetically survey on north east and island scotts , vast majority had Scandinavians in them! :)

Scotland was harmless, but last summer I was at the Myvatn lake on Iceland; I even took
the photos with the helmet closed.

Typical, as soon as I organise a holiday somewhere (Scottish Highlands), Lonely Planet sticks it on everyones bucket list.
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

Boy this is wildly off-topic for the forum. I have only flown over Scotland and have seen photographs of the the highlands and I do find them beautiful but also sad as I know they were once all forested. By random chance co-inky-dinky youtube served up this TEDx talk to me just a few days ago. Good and interesting:

My wife and I are planning a walking trip to the Highlands in the future once we are free of children! The south west parts of Tasmania we know well and love and have heard that it is pretty similar to Scotland - perhaps the weather a little gentler in Tasmania. In some parts of the national parks you can be 30km away from any vehicle access track - the classic injury is a fractured lower leg, buys you a helicopter ride! Fitness and good planning essential!
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

An Aussie here  :)  About 10 years ago now, I toured England, Wales, Ireland (car ferry from HollyHead),
playing my guitar with local 'musos' in local Pubs, mainly in the real country-side.
Back from Ireland, (in my lovely 4 cylinder diesel 'Skoda' !! ), I went north to Scotland, with limited time left...

Due to time limits, I was told by people that Glasgow is quite 'Industrial', (uhoh :)), so I bypassed it, and went
straight to Edinburgh !!  LOVED the countryside of course, but at about 5:00pm trying to get off the Motorway
at a major roundabout out of Edinburgh, I was met with a whole lot of shouting, fingers-up & fist-shaking !!  8)
"How dare I slow down & get in the correct lane, still at 70-kph"...  Angry buggers !!   :) :)

Then I found out later, that they don't handle that time of day well in traffic  :P  but later on when it was 9:00pm
they had all calmed down, even though the Sun still hadn't set !! It was a different experience all together !
I parked where the Military Tattoo was setting up, right in front of the main doors, at the Castle. A security guard
showed me the gun muzzle flaps ahead in the doors.  "She'll be right mate. I'm an Aussie !!" (He took photos).

In the morning, we walked the 'golden Mile'. Went on historical underground tours of Mary King's Close.
Toured the famous Tartan manufacturing Works, and toured the Castle...
I never played/found the 'Folk' music scene there !!  8)
Diagonal of 1x1 square = Root-2. Ok.
Diagonal of 1x1x1 cube = Root-3 !!!  Beautiful !!
