Hi all,
I'm moving to Sydney at the end of June for work, from South Africa. I unfortunately can't take along much of my kit. Can I please get recommendations as to where in Sydney to get the basics (soldering iron, etc)?
Kind regards
Tinus

Some starters:
Hobbyist type stuff:
https://www.jaycar.com.au
www.altronics.com.au
Commercial outlets:
http://au.rs-online.com
http://au.element14.com
There's mouser/digikey/newark etc.
The Sydney locals will know the small goldmine places.

Go to maps.google.com enter where you want to search e.g. sydney
Then once there enter what business you want to find e.g. electronic components

Some suppliers used in Australia, not necessarily Sydney, some are international companies:
RS
Element14
Upton
Oritech
Mektronics
Emona
WES
Good old WES...good for TV microwave parts etc
Wagner
WES is a subsidiary of Wagner
Gumtree
Good for cheap stuff sometimes. Kinda like Craig's list USA. Ya can buy your stolen stuff back...cheap!
